Germany v France Preview, Euro 2016, Semi-Finals, Thursday 7th July 2016.

Germany have an exceptional record against France in competition matches with them failing to lose in 58 years, yet they must also consider that these records are set to be broken, much like the one Germany achieved against Italy in the quarter finals on Saturday. The last time these two nations met in a competition was back in Brazil in the quarter finals were Germany went on to left the World Cup.

Although the World Champions have got this far they haven’t exactly been playing great football even though they did beat Slovakia with ease 3 – 0 in the first knock out round. Italy was another matter however and the Germans did well to take the lead via a Mesut Ozil effort in the 65 minute, only to then draw the game conceding a penalty 12 minutes from time. Extra time went by and after too many penalties to count, Germany eventually went through to the semi-finals.

France much like Germany were the tournament favourites and this Thursday will witness one of the two being knocked out of the competition and head into the final. Although France made a lot of work for themselves against the Republic of Ireland they did achieve something England failed to do and that’s beat Iceland with ease. By half time France walked through the tunnel 4 – 0 leaders and it looked pretty dim for the Icelandic side.

The second half however you must say belonged to the underdogs who managed to pull one back much to the delight of the exceptional Iceland fans. Sadly though France then scored another which did truly add further nails into Iceland’s coffin. The game eventually ended 5 – 2 to France in what can only be my favourite game so far in the competition. France played to their attacking potential although do look slightly fragile at the back.

Germany Team News:

Although Mario Gomez wasn’t expecting to be on the plane to France, he sadly now misses the rest of the competition due to a hamstring injury. We are unsure yet on the availability of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira due to injuries they have picked up, while defender Mats Hummels misses out due to a suspension.

France Team News:

France themselves come into this game with no one suspended although do have Arsenal pair Laurent Koscielny and striker Olivier Giroud just one card away from missing the final. France welcome back N’Golo Kante and Adil Rami after they have served their one match match.

Germany v France Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures played it is all square between these two world beaters although Germany have had the better results with knocking France out of the World Cup in Brazil back in 2014. In total they have met on 12 occasions with France experiences the better results with 6 wins and 2 draws. While Germany have just won on the 4 occasions.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 12 games  played out against each other we have seen a total of 29 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.4 which has been seen a number of times in the above table. I am hoping to see between two and three goals scored on Thursday evening so going for the below selection could be a good option.

Germany: W W W D W

France: W W D W W

It’s all evens between the two when it comes down to wins, draws and loses although it is Germany who have faced the tougher sides like Italy and Poland. Both nations were set as the bookmakers favourites to win the competition and come Thursday night we will see one of the best depart either in 90 minutes, extra time or penalties.

Germany v France Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

The second semi-final takes place on Thursday with either Germany of host nation France set to play Portugal or the unexpected Welsh in the European Champions 2016. Although a lot of eyes will be watching the other semi-final on Wednesday it is this fixture that will capture peoples attention with two champions clashing in this epic semi-final fixture.

France are coming in as the ever so slight favourites, but not enough in my eyes to warrant anything big of an offer. Germany are the current World Champions and much like France and Spain before hand could continue to do the double of a World Cup and European Championship on the bounce. I can’t call who will win here Thursday night so will be playing it safe with a draw within the 90 minutes of normal play.

France have come alive in the last match against Iceland with them winning an incredible 5 – 2, but what must also be noted is how easily they can concede due to a weak defense, something the World Champions could exploit if the home nation are not careful. One thing Germany have been good at is defending with them only conceding the one goal in this competition which was against Italy in the quarter final.

My predictions for this game is leaning more towards the draw as I for one just cannot predict a winner between these two sides. Both have played okay although not well and of course both have faults in their current playing style. So for my banker I am going to go for the basic draw which I do believe will come in Thursday night. The next I am going for is for a correct score of 2 – 2 on the night, only because I’d love to see both sides score and for there to be some excitement during the match.
