Republic of Ireland v England Preview, International Friendly, Sunday 7th June 2015

A good selection for a friendly regarding Republic of Ireland this weekend, especially as they have fellow neighbours Scotland at the end of next week in the EURO championship Qualifiers. The last time Republic of Ireland faced Scotland was away from home last year in which they had lost 1 – 0, so this next fixture will be an important one if they wish to qualify from Group D. These two opponents have only met once in the last ten years which was back in 2013, where the two drew 1 – 1 at Wembley Stadium. The time before that was twenty years ago in which Republic of Ireland won the game on home ground.

England are still on an incredible run of form coming into this international friendly against Republic of Ireland and haven’t lost a game since the World Cup in Brazil last year. Their last opponents were tough side Italy away from home and although it looked likely that England would lose after going one nil down, we then see super sub Andros Townsend come on and scream home an equalizer ten minutes from time. England have now played nine games without a loss, and have drawn two of these fixtures. They face Slovenia a week tomorrow in the EURO Championship Qualifiers, and will certainly want to win that to make it six wins out of six in the group stages.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

Paul McShane is the only Irish player not to train recently as he continues to recover from a gash in his leg. The defender picked up the injury against Manchester United in the last game of the season in which see United go down to ten men. Robbie Keane has flown over from the US to face England.

England Team News:

Aston Villa’s midfielder Fabian Delph missed England’s training session on Thursday with a slight knock picked up in the FA Cup Final although is expected to be fit. Adam Lallana was the only other England player missing as he went home following the birth of his second child. Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy have been called up and hope to earn their first caps for their country.

Republic of Ireland v England Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

International friendly action this Sunday features home side The Republic of Ireland, who face England in what promised to be an exciting game with two battling competitive sides. The last time England have beaten the Republic of Ireland was way back in 1985 and since then have lost twice and drawn four times.

England are in far better form hear and haven’t lost a game since the World Cup group stage in Brazil last year. They have won all five of their EURO Championship Qualifiers and this warm up game against Republic of Ireland will no doubt be good practice when they then face Slovenia away from home a week later. That will be a game they certainly will not want to lose, and if they can record a good win against the Irish it will no doubt leave them in a good position to push on for a positive result in the qualifiers.

My predictions for this game tomorrow does see England battle for their first win in thirty years and part of me does want to go for a draw of some kind also. But this time I am going to shy away from that prediction and back England all the way in both predictions. The first will be for England to win the game 2 – 0, which is currently giving some good odds right now. The other will be for Wayne Rooney to score and England to win.
