Manchester City v Aston Villa Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 7th May 2014

Manchester City can take a giant step towards securing the Premiership title on wednesday night in front of their home fans at the Etihad Stadium when they play host against struggling Aston Villa as with Liverpool throwing away a 3 goal lead to draw 3-3 with Crystal Palace yesterday evening, it does seem that Brendan Rogers side have now gifted the title race to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Aston Villa have survived to play in the Premiership next season as with 38pts none of the bottom three sides can catch them having just one game remaining, but Villa fans will obviously be far from happy at what they have seen from their side this season and this game does represent an opportunity for the players to give something back to their fans by winning this game.

Manchester City Team News:

Matija Nastasic and Jesus Navas both look unlikely to feature in this game due to having only just recovered from respective injury problems and with Sergio Aguero having limped off in the weekend’s victory against Everton, he also looks unlikely to start this game on wednesday night but could be handed a place on the bench. If Sergio Aguero doesn’t start this game then Dzeko and Negredo should be the two players leading the attack up front for the hosts.

Aston Villa Team News:

Christian Benteke, Libor Kozák, Jores Okore, Charles N’Zogbia and Gary Gardner are still all out with respective injury problems and remain unavailable for this game. Midfielder Chris Herd will also be absent as he has been granted personal leave. Gabriel Agbonlahor has been receiving treatment for a knock and has only been involved in light training with the squad, but is expected to feature and lead the attack up front for this game.

Manchester City v Aston Villa Head to Head Statistics:

Wednesday night’s game from the Etihdad Stadium will become the 148th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Manchester City have won 60 (44 at the Etihad Stadium), Aston Villa have won 49 (15 at the Etihad Stadium) and there has been 38 draws (15 at the Etihad Stadium).

The previous 5 meetings between the two clubs in our head to head statistics table below shows Manchester City with a slight advantage having managed to win 3 times with Aston Villa winning the other 2.

28/09/13 PRL Aston Villa – Manchester City 3 : 2
04/03/13 PRL Aston Villa – Manchester City 0 : 1
17/11/12 PRL Manchester City – Aston Villa 5 : 0
25/09/12 LEC Manchester City – Aston Villa 2 : 4 (Extra Time)
12/02/02 PRL Aston Villa – Manchester City 0 : 1

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

446 Goals have been scored in the previous 147 games played between these two clubs over the years which provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 3.03.

243 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 74 matches played at the Etihad Stadium which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 3.28.

Both of the average goals per game statistics above strongly indicate that this game is likely to see at least 3 goals scored come wednesday night.

Manchester City v Aston Villa Recent Form (Left to Right)

Manchester City: L D W W W

Aston Villa: L L D L W

Manchester City head into this game with a clear advantage on the recent form statistics having managed to win 3, drawn 1 and lose 1 as Aston Villa have only managed 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats.

Manchester City v Aston Villa Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester City are the clear odds on favourites to win this game on wednesday night which should not come as much of a surprise to anyone what with the Premiership title being up for grabs, but their current best price of 1/6 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) does not exactly look like value unfortunately.

The Draw is not a result that has happened much when these two sides have met each other over the years and even less when the game is played at the Etihad Stadium, so very unlikely that we will see this game finish all square on wednesday night as the current best price of 17/2 with Bet365 (£200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers) cleary shows.

Aston Villa have a number of injuries to key players and with nothing left to play for this season I would be very surprised to see them even keep this game close let alone win, so their current best price of 20/1 with Sky Bet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers) does look about right in relation to their chances.

Manchester City v Aston Villa Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Manchester City can’t win the Premiership title with a victory in this game but they can go a point ahead of Liverpool who could only manage a 3-3 draw on monday night at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace and with Manuel Pellegrini’s side at home against Newcastle United in their final game of the season this weekend, it does seem like a victory in this game on wednesday night will be enough to see them win their second title in the last three years.

Aston Villa have nothing left to play for in their remaining two games of the season so we could see manager Paul Lambert giving some fringe players a chance to impress as with a number of injuries to his key players I can’t really see either the manager or the players really being that concerned on the outcome of this game.

The average goals per game statistics are suggesting this match to see at least 3 goals scored on wednesday night and with Manchester City averaging over 3 goals a game when having home advantage this season I would expect the hosts to be scoring most of them.

My Banker Prediction for this game is going to be Both Teams to Score No & Over 2.5 Goals as I really can’t see Aston Villa scoring in this game and with Manchester City scoring for fun at the moment this looks decent value to be on.

My Saver is going to be Edin Dzeko to score a brace as I really can’t see Aston Villa being up for this game and with the title up for grabs for the hosts I would expect them to win this game in comfortable fashion and with Dzeko having been banging the goals in recently he looks great value to get a couple in this one.
