Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool Preview, Europa League, Quarter Finals 1st Leg, Thursday 7th April 2016.

It was an easy last round for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund as they easily bypassed Premiership title chasing side Tottenham Hotspurs. Dortmund won both legs and ended the round 5 – 1 on aggregate and are by far the easy favourites to win the Europa League in my opinion. The home side will know their previous manager Klopp is in charge of Liverpool now and potentially in a season or two may turn Liverpool into a decent title fighting side.

That said this new Dortmund side have been exceptional this season and are only five points adrift current Bundesliga Champions and leaders Bayern Munich, and with just six games left to play are seriously hoping Bayern do manage to slip up somewhere and allow them to steal the title. The odds on them actually doing so however are slim, as a side such as Bayern Munich don’t slip up often even though they do have a couple of tough sides left remaining.

Liverpool have been hit and miss all season and I am actually shocked to still see them in the competition at such a late stage. Luckily for Liverpool it was their home performance that won them the last round as Manchester United clearly hadn’t turned up on the night when they lost 2 – 0. Even when the 2nd round was played at Old Trafford they didn’t look like they could of gone on to win once Liverpool had equalized.

In the Premier League however Liverpool are struggling in ninth although do still have a couple of games in hand over most teams above them. If they do manage to win them they will bounce above the likes of Stoke City and Southampton and even be in with a chance of a European competition finishing spot. This will of course be dependent on other clubs such as West Ham United and Manchester United but right now I do feel the club just need to take it one game at a time.

Borussia Dortmund Team News:

Borussia Dortmund have been without Neven Subotic and Ilkay Gundogan before the international break and new manager Thomas Tuchel will hope they are available to feature in the home tie against Liverpool on Thursday night. The fourteen players picked during the international break all came home with out an injury to worry about.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have missed the Brazilian forward Firmino recently as hes missed the last two games, yet good news for Liverpool and its fans as the youngster has traveled to Germany in hopes of playing in this first leg. Christian Benteke misses out having suffered a hamstring injury while midfielder Lucas is not fit enough to play.

Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

The two clubs have met each other on three previous occasions where Liverpool experienced the better results with two wins and a draw. The more important win came way back in 2001 when the two met in the Champions League in which Liverpool won 2 – 0. However this Thursday we will see a much better Borussia Dortmund side and in my eyes are certainly the favourites to progress into the semi finals.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the three games played previously we have see a total of six goals scored. Which will of course give us a goals per game average of two. For Thursdays game I am going to select the below option as I do certainly feel the attacking prowess of Borussia Dortmund do have it in them to score, but I also feel Liverpool could shock them and shut up shop and concede zero.

Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Borussia Dortmund: W W W W W

Liverpool: D L D W W

Borussia Dortmund are in exceptional form this season and actually challenging Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title. They are also my favourites to actually win this competition as they certainly are the strongest team left in the competition. Liverpool as we know have been hit and miss so I certainly don’t see them winning this game come Thursday.

Liverpool to win this match is in my opinion a long shot as with a couple of injuries hindering them I am not sure the current squad have it in them to win any silverware this season. Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Europa League action this Thursday does come from Germany at the lovely ground of Borussia Dortmund’s, and of course can be viewed live via BT Sports Europa and in spectacular High Definition! We already know how well Borussia Dortmund have been playing this season and if rivals Bayern Munich slip up a game or two then we could see the club clinch the Bundesliga title from under their noses.

Borussia Dortmund haven’t lost a game since way back in December away from home to Koln 2 – 1. Since then they have won eighteen games and drawn twice and if they can keep it up could pressure leaders Bayern into submission. They are the clear favourites to win this tie and go on to win the competition as I can’t see any of the remaining clubs in this competition good enough to beat this in form title chasing side.

Liverpool are far from their best and seriously lacking some quality here and there within the squad. But the good news is they do have an incredible manager to take the club forward and potentially build them into a great side like we saw in the eighties. That said they have an incredible long way to go and with them in ninth currently are still within shot of a potential top six finish.

If they do manage to win their last eight games they could seriously be challenging Manchester United and West Ham for that fourth or fifth placed finish although of course this does depend on Manchester City who recently won their last game 4 – 0 against AFC Bournemouth. We all know how the teams just mentioned have been performing this season, so could we actually see Liverpool finish the season strong? Who knows is my guess and no doubt many of the worlds neutrals.

Predictions for this game are in favour of the home win, and if I am brutally honest I can see the Bundesliga club beat Liverpool at Anfield for the 2nd leg. That said Liverpool wont be an easy win and if they do play like they did at home to Manchester United could potentially beat any team on the night. Borussia Dortmund have been exceptional and for my banker bet I am going to go for Borussia Dortmund to win the game to nil. My next prediction is going to be a correct score of Borussia Dortmund to win the game 2 – 0 on the night.
