Chelsea v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 7th February 2016

Chelsea have had a very strange season so far as their current league positions shows, but they are starting to look more like the Chelsea of old and head into this game unbeaten in their last five league matches played.

However, a 0-0 draw against Watford last time out would not of inspired much confidence in the players and this game against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon does look a very tough test for the current league champions.

Manchester United have also had a bit of a disappointing season, but are still right there in the hunt for that UEFA Champions League place. Manager Louis Van Gaal has came under quite a lot of pressure in recent months with his side having struggled to win games and it does look like his time at the club is limited as it looks likely he will be replaced by the time the new season starts.

United head into this game having lost one of their last five league matches played which was a 0-1 home defeat against Southampton but returned back to winning ways in their latest match when thumping Stoke City 3-0 at Old Trafford and that result will surely have all the players in confident mood of winning this match.

Chelsea Team News:

The hosts have a few injuries to their squad and will be without the services of both Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao. Alexandre Pato is still lacking match fitness and is unlikely to be involved. Diego Costa will lead the attack up front with support in behind being provided by Eden Hazzard, Willian and Cesc Fabregas.

Manchester United Team News:

The visitors still have a few injuries to their squad which include Defender Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Marouane Fellaini is a doubt having picked up a knock in the midweek victory against Stoke City and he will under take a late fitness test to see if he can be involved.

Wayne Rooney continues to impress up front and he will again lead the attack with support in behind being provided by Martial and Lingard.

Chelsea v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s afternoon fixture from Stamford Bridge will become the 156th meeting overall between the two clubs over the years. Chelsea have managed to secure 48 victories overall with 27 of those having came with home advantage where as Manchester United have managed to secure 63 victories with an impressive 33 of those having came at Stamford Bridge.

Our head to head statistics table below shows the previous five matches played between the two clubs over recent season’s and as we can see it has been Chelsea who have the slight advantage heading into this game having won twice compared to Manchester United having failed to win any and the remaining three matches having finish all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 155 previous games that have taken place overall between these two clubs we have seen a total of 448 goals scored and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.89.

250 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 79 matches played between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic for this game of 3.16.

Both sets of data shown above seem to strongly suggest that we should see at least a few goals scored in this game on Sunday afternoon and betting markets like Both Teams to Score, Over 2.5 Goals and Total Match Goals 2 or 3 all look good options.

Chelsea v Manchester United Match Betting Odds Market

Chelsea are the current clear favourites to win this game on Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge at a current best price of 23/20 with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers.

The Draw has happened in three of the last five meetings between the two clubs and this game game could very easily follow suit, so it could be a sensible decision to get something on this game finishing all square as your main cover bet at a current best price of 12/5 with Betfred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets for New Customers.

Manchester United are in slightly better form than their hosts and are having a much better season by all a counts, so I was a bit surprised to see the online bookmakers offering up a best price of 3/1 with BetVictor – £50 Free Bets for New Customers, as this does seem to be a little overpriced in my opinion and could be the value play here.

Chelsea v Manchester United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

There certainly is no love lost between these two sides as they continue to remain arch enemies and I can certainly see this game seeing it’s fair share of bookings what with the crunching tackles flying in.

Diego Costa looks a good bet to be sent off as he really does have a problem with being able to keep his temper in check and you can be sure that the Manchester United players will be trying everything possible to wind him up during the course of the game.

United head into the game as the side in the best of form recently and did look rather impressive with their 3-0 destruction against Stoke City midweek so their current odds of 3/1 with BetVictor does look very tempting indeed.

However, United have seem to struggled against Chelsea in recent years and have failed to win any of the last five meetings between the two clubs and this does put me off in backing United to win this game, however I do expect this game to see at least a couple of goals.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tips selection is going to be for Both Teams to Score as I am leaning towards this game finishing up in either a 1-1 draw or 2-1 either way.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Wayne Rooney to score the first goal of the game as he has been impressive leading the attack up front for his side in recent weeks and still has plenty of ability in front of goal despite him not getting any younger.
