Sweden v Netherlands Preview, World Cup 2018, Qualifier, Tuesday 6th September 2016.

After coming bottom of the group during this years EURO’s in France, Sweden have yet to play an international game having three months off. Opponents Netherlands didn’t even qualify for the EURO’s which will be a bit of a culture shock for the nation and since a few changes in coaches.

Sweden have seen their national hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic retire after the EURO’s and has played one hundred and sixteen games for his country and scoring sixty two goals in the process. It will be a tough group for Sweden to be in here with France and Tuesdays opponents the Netherlands certainly the favourites to progress.

Having failed to qualify for the EURO’s in France this summer I can imagine all efforts will be made to make it to the end of the qualifying stages either top of second. Top of the table wont be easy feat to achieve unless they manage to defeat the favourites to qualify, France.

The Netherlands have had a great run of results recently with the exception of the last being at home against Greece. The visitors won the game 2 – 1 this week which wont leave Netherlands much confidence when they face Sweden away from home. That said however they are still the favourites to win against Sweden Tuesday night.

Sweden Team News:

As stated we have seen Zlatan Ibrahimovic retire from international football also joining Kim Kallstrom and Ola Toivonen who are now no longer available. We should see Guidetti, Oscar Hiljemark and Markus Berg feature at some point with all having a point to prove.

Netherlands Team News:

We should see goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen back in goal Tuesday night having been replaced by Jeroen Zoet recently. Jeffrey Bruma or Daley Blind could be replaced by Virgil van Dijk in the center of defence while Ron Vlaar misses out due to being injured in training.

Sweden v Netherlands  Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles between these two nations we do see it is the visitors who come out on top with three wins, a draw and a more recent loss. The two haven’t met in the last five years so Tuesdays encounter looks set to be an exciting one. In total they have met on 23 occasions with the Netherlands on top with 11 wins, 8 loses and 4 draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 23 games featured against each other we have seen a total of 91 goals scored which is only to give us a very high goals per game average of 3.9. When looking at the above results that statistic could easily come into to play this Tuesday.

Sweden were terrible in the EURO’s this summer having finished bottom of their group, where as the Netherlands hadn’t even qualified for the competition in France. That said the visitors are the better team in form right now even though they did lose to Greece this week at home.

Sweden v Netherlands Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Work Cup Qualifying action this Tuesday on ITV4 high definition brings to us Sweden verses a  young Netherlands side hoping to atone for their failures having not qualified for the EURO’s competition in France. If they did I could of easily seen them do better than Sweden who failed to qualify having only earned a point during the summer.

That said I may well be a little harsh here because it was a tough group to be placed in with Italy and Belgium two of the sides responsible for Sweden coming bottom. The other side, the Republic of Ireland were the side Sweden won a point against, yet when the Irish beat Italy it was them who progressed into the knock out stages.

The Netherlands will be hoping to do far better during this qualifying window especially with a place in the World Cup up for grabs. Yet they face tough opposition with France set as the favourites to top the group. I do feel after this it could be between these two nations playing Tuesday, with the Netherlands the likelier of the two to progress.

My predictions for this game is leaning more towards the Netherlands winning in 90 minutes, with also some form a draw sneaking in there if the visitors fail to play good football. So for my banker I plan to go for both teams to score and the Netherlands to win the match. The next I am going for is a correct score draw of 2 – 2 on the night.
