San Marino v England Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Saturday 5th September 2015.

We’re back to international week with bottom of the group San Marino up against top of the table, England. Some how amazingly so San Marino have so far earned a point during this campaign, which Estonia will not be too happy about seeing as though they were the victims. The last time San Marino drew a game in a competition was way back in 2001 away from home to Latvia in the World Cup qualifiers. In history we only have two games recorded as wins, with the more recent only last year against Bellaria Igea at home, a county even I have no knowledge of. Before that it was eleven years ago in another friendly against Liechtenstein in 2004.

England head into this game on the back of a great away win against Slovenia back in June and will no doubt be favourites to at least put a minimum of five goals past the home side San Marino. It will heighten the already growing confidence of Wayne Rooney and his team as they look to continue their winning ways making it seven wins in seven games. Switzerland are currently second in Group E sitting six points behind England, and that advantage could be even more come Tuesday when Switzerland visit England for round two. England’s last two fixtures of the group will be in October against Estonia and Lithuania in which they should easily win both, topping the group with 100% winning record.

San Marino Team News:

San Marino have stated that they have no injuries for this EURO 2016 Qualification fixture although do have a couple of uncapped players potentially making their debut’s come Saturday. Defender Marco Berardi and goalkeeper Giacomo Muraccini could play their firsts games for San Marino although are both very unlikely to start the match.

England Team News:

England manager Roy Hodgson has also named some less experienced players in his side for Saturdays game, and would be the perfect time to allow some fringe players to get some minutes as either way the team should walk out easy winners. Tom Heaton, Ryan Mason, Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Butland and Jamie Vardy have all been called up to make a possible appearance. England have no injuries in this squad, although goalkeeper Butland does have a minor finger issue.

San Marino v England Head to Head Statistics:

England without fail have completely dominated San Marino from the first day they met way back in 1993 in a World Cup Qualifying match. They have in that time only met five times which can all be seen below in the head to head table. Embarrassing enough however, England have conceded the one goal against San Marino, the only thing to tarnish this record.

09/10/14 ECQ England vs San Marino 5 : 0
22/03/13 WQE San Marino vs England 0 : 8
12/10/12 WQE England  vs San Marino 5 : 0
16/11/93 WQE San Marino vs England 1 : 7
17/02/93 WQE England vs San Marino 6 : 0

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

The two have met five times since way back in 1993, in which there has been a total of 32 goals scored, 31 of these by England. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 6.4 which is always going to be a good option when looking at the difference between these two sides in terms of player quality. The below option with England being away from home is certainly a good option, and something I will be looking to have a play with.

San Marino v England Recent Form (Left to Right)

San Marino: L L L D L

England: W D D W W

England are by far the better team in form here and haven’t lost a game since their time in Brazil during last years World Cup campaign. Since then the side have won eight and drawn on three occasions. Where as San Marino have lost five of their six qualifying games, and of course that extremely rare draw against Estonia earning them a point.

San Marino v England Match Betting Odds Market

San Marino have never beaten England, if fact I can only see that they have won twice in their twenty five year international history. The chances of them actually winning against England are slim, with the best of them odds currently seen here @ 100/1 with Betfred – Bet £10 Get £30 Free Bets for New Registering Accounts

The Draw for San Marino would be exactly like winning the World Cup itself, something that I just cannot ever see happening in mine, or my children’s lifetime. However we must record it and the best possible odds seen right now can be found here @ 40/1 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

England are of course the clear and dominant favourites to win this game come Saturday, and the question will be just how many goals can they score. San Marino v England Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

International break comes to us yet again just after the domestic league transfer window closes, with a lot of players looking forward and excited about linking up with their new clubs and team mates. It is no different for these two sides with the English transfer market being the biggest highlight of all. Anyway San Marino host England for the third time in their short history and will no doubt be looking to go out and play fully defensive. As playing any kind of attacking football will surely see them punished by England’s powerful and talented attacking prowess.

England will use this fixture much like they would a friendly game, and play players who are in need of more international minutes for some much needed experience. So we are likely to see Tottenham Hotspurs striker Harry Kane start on Saturday, of course partnering England captain Wayne Rooney. I can see Ross Barkley of Everton getting a start alongside Arsenals midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain which will be exciting to see. San Marino have only won twice in their international careers, the last of these wins coming only last year in a friendly game. Yet lets be honest, a win or draw for San Marino is seen as very unlikely, and bookmakers know it with them showing such high odds of those results possibly happening.

My predictions for Saturdays game on ITV1 will see England score plenty of goals giving players some younger players some much needed experience in this easy game. That said we all know you can never walk out of that tunnel being too over complacent, so with that I am thinking England could only potentially score four goals on the night. They surely wont concede so with that I plan to take a correct scoreline of England to win 4 – 0. The next is for Wayne Rooney to score two or more goals on the night as he continues to beat some of England’s record goal scorers.
