Burton Albion v Coventry City Preview, League One, Sunday 6th September 2015.

It’s been a great start for Burton Albion with them currently sitting in third place. Having won their opening two games against Scunthorpe united at home, and then Bolton Wanderers away things were looking good for the club, but then they were beaten by Barnsley on their travels which then started to bring about some doubts of the clubs chances of promotion. But since that loss the team have since gone on to win their last three League One games on the trot and of course come into this game as favourites with the fixture set at home. They are however out of the Capital One Cup with a loss to Middlesbrough in extra time, as well as the Football League Trophy which came down to penalties against Doncaster Rovers who get to progress.

Coventry City have had some serious up’s and downs in recent years and one of the worst has to be a stadium share with Northampton during 2013. Not only that though, but they were relegated from the Championships in 2012, the first time in forty eight years and have since then struggled to earn promotion back. Last year however things were looking to progress, with the club moving back to their home ground, Ricoh Arena. This season has seen the club start well and they now sit in fifth, just two points adrift their opponents Burton Albion. Having won their first three games League One games they have since been challenged with a loss to top of the league Walsall away from home, and then the more recent 2 – 2 draw at home to Southend United who are close to the bottom.

Burton Albion Team News:

Tom Flanagan has still not reached full fitness and is a doubt for Sundays game against Coventry, and we are unsure if manager Jimmy Hasselbaink will be selecting the former MK Dons defender. Another defender is looking forward to the game, with Shane Cansdell-Sherriff just one of the names responsible for Burton Albions great start to the season. The player was suffering with a few pre-season minor injuries, yet has since then come out on top and will no doubt be a starter on Sunday for the Brewers.

Coventry City Team News:

Coventry City are without three first team players for Sundays clash against third placed Burton Albion. With Maddison, Finch and Willis all out we do however see Marcus Tudgay return to action after being sidelined with an illness. Lee Burge did miss training during the week but is however expected to be fit for Sunday.

Burton Albion v Coventry City Head to Head Statistics:

As Burton Albion only got promoted this year we’ve only got the one result to go on when the two met three years ago in the Football League Trophy in which Coventry City progressed after winning on penalties. That said you would expect Coventry City to be the stronger side here, yet who can take away the strong start newly promoted Burton Albion have experienced.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

The two have only met once in the past, and no goals were scored in the Football League Trophy fixture. Lets home this Sundays game does provide us a goal or three, as no one likes boring 0 – 0 draws at any level. So with that I am going to go with the below choice, a selection I do feel could be a good option for Sundays game.

Burton Albion being at home are the favourites set by the bookmakers to win on Sunday. And who can question them after such an incredible start to their campaign after being promoted last season. The Draw could be a good option here as both sides are currently playing very well this season in the domestic league. They have only played once in the past which was three years ago, and the game ended goalless after 120 minutes. Burton Albion v Coventry City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

League One action on Sunday can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition as the usual top leagues will not be featured due to the International break with England, Scotland and the Irish all featuring in the EURO 2016 qualifying groups. League One is always an exciting spectacle and with these two top sides playing each other we can only hope for one of the two to provide some quality entertainment.

Both clubs right now have had a great start to their League One campaigns, although do see themselves both knocked out of the Capital One Cup and of course the Football League Trophy for Burton Albion. Coventry City right now sit in fifth and have seen their great start to the season take a knock after recent weeks. They did lose to top of the league Walsall away from home, and then draw at home against Southend United who have so far not had the best of starts. Burton Albion got promoted last season and have since then shocked four of the League One sides and only losing the once against Barnsley on their travels.

My predictions for this League One fixture at first will see both teams score and for the game to end as a draw, as its a result I do feel both clubs could deserve on the day after both currently being tough sides to beat. The next will be for Burton Albion to continue their winning domestic league run to then be in a good position to then welcome another top team, Rochdale to their ground. With this Burton Albion win I plan to take a correct scoreline guess of 2 – 1.
