Morecambe v Wolves Preview, Capital One Cup, Tuesday 6th August 2013

Morecambe kicked off their campaign on Saturday and suffered a loss to Wycombe and coach Jim Bentley admitted after that his side really struggled to cope with Wycombes’s style of play and the pitch at the Adams Park Stadium. Both managers were very surprised with the 1-0 end result as either side could of easily scored 4 or more but both teams suffered and became wasteful in front of goal. With the club lacking funds this year it was a hard day for Jim Bentley after having to release Danny Carlton due to not having the money to pay his wages. With worse matters the player had recovered well this summer after having to sit out most of last seasons games due to a nasty injury, but even though the 29 year old had made nearly 50 appearances and scored 9 goals the clubs finances have forced Jim Bentley’s hand in letting a huge club player go.

Wolves also kicked off their League 1 campaign on Saturday and things just didn’t sparkle with a boring 0-0 draw against Preston North End, and manager Kenny Jackett insists that unless they step up their game they will not live up to being favourites to win the title and promotion. It was a shock for Wolves to have been relegated two seasons straight and with the addition of the former Millwall manager they are looking to bounce straight back into the Championship this term. With letting the influential veteran striker Kevin Doyle go it was something new manager Jackett had to do as the players wages were far too high for a team stuck in the lowly divisions.

Morecambe v Wolves Team News

Morecambe Team News:

With The Shrimps suffering in the lack of striker options last year, Bentley has been forced to enter the transfer market for improved goal scoring options. Granted it didn’t help that they let Lewis Alessandra leave for Plymouth and also injury stricken Jack Redshaw who was Morcambe’s top goal scorer before suffering a hip injury which kept him our for the first half of the season. This year however they have added promising striker Padraig Amond to the squad who last season scored 9 goals for Accrington Stanley and having played under Bentley before while he managed there last year he insisted the player has the experience and know how to play in the League 2 campaign.

Wolves Team News:

Wolves haven’t been at all busy in the transfer market this term and instead concentrate on offering current players Danny Batth and Leigh Griffiths new deals to stay at the club. Griffiths himself was busy last season playing on loan for Hibernian and scored an impressive 28 goals in all competition for the Scottish club and having impressed so much the Wolves boss looks set to make Griffiths an important part to his squad this term to secure the clubs promotion.
