Wales v Portugal Preview, Euro 2016, Semi Final 6th July 2016

The whole of Wales is having a party at the moment as their side really has achieved the impossible during this tournament. Nobody really expected Wales to qualify from the group let alone reach the semi finals and you really do have to take your hat off to everyone involved on what has been an excellent tournament so far.

Winning the group landed Wales in what most people would agree was the weakest path to the finals as they managed to avoid the likes of Italy, Germany and hosts France and on Wednesday night in Lyon, Wales will bid to make history and send all welsh fans into a frenzy by securing a place in the European Championships final.

Portugal have not really been talked about much during this tournament and have definitely been flying well below the radar so to speak and although they have yet to actually win a match in this tournament during the 90mins, they have shown tremendous character to reach this far and both the players and fans will obviously fancy their chances of beating Wales and making it through to the final.

Wales Team News:

Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey for this game as both players serve suspensions. James Collins and Andy King are in line to step in and provide the cover. Other than that though Wales have a full squad available and except from those two forced changes, I would expect their manager to stick with the same staring eleven that put Belgium to the sword last time out.

Portugual Team News:

Portugal will be without the services of William Cavalho as he also serves a suspension having picked up his second yellow card in the penalty shoot-out victory against Poland. Other than that though, Portugal have a full squad available and like Wales, I would expect their manager to stick with the same starting eleven that started that quarter final match against Poland.

Wales v Portugal Head to Head Statistics:

Wednesday night’s match from Stade de Lyon in Lyon will become only the 4th meeting between the two nations over recent years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table below, it has been Portugal who have enjoyed the better of the results having won two times, compared to Wales having won one.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

9 Goals have been scored during those previous 3 matches played between the two nations and this generates us an average goals per game statistic of exactly 3.00 which suggests we should see between two or three goals scored in this match on Wednesday night.

Wales v Portugal Match Betting Odds Market

Wales will be in confident mood having dumped Belgium out of the tournament during the quarter final stage and for me they look great value at their current best price available of 16/5 with Stan James – Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw is a current best price of 21/10 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers Registering an Account and with Portugal having been the draw masters of this tournament so far, getting on this game to head into extra time could be a sensible option as your main cover bet.

Portugal have not really done it for me from what I have seen from them during this tournament, but they have managed to get the job done and obviously have a big chance of making it all the way through to the final and their current odds on offer of 5/4 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account will probably attract plenty of interest.

Wales v Portugal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Wales have in my opinion played the better football to reach this semi final stage of the tournament, but with both Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey missing from the side due to suspension, it does mean that Wales will be a much weakened team to what we have seen previously during this tournament.

Portugal will be without William Carvalho which is a major blow for them, but they still have an abundance of quality in their squad and on paper most people would probably expect Portugal to win this one.

However, it really is difficult to back against Wales at the moment as they have beaten everyone (except England) that has been put in front of them and I can probably see Wales hanging on to force this game into extra time and possibly another penalty shoot-out.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for this game to see a total of 2 or 3 goals scored on Wednesday night as I think the result of this match will be either 1-1 or 2-1 to Portugal.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Cristiano Ronaldo to score the opening goal of the game as although his actions have made him look like a spoilt child during this tournament, he still has the world class that sets him high and above everyone in the world of football with the exception of the great Lionel Messi.
