PSG v Manchester City Preview, Champions League, Quarter Final 1st Leg, Wednesday 6th April 2016.

With the quarter finals this week can we see PSG go all the way and cruise past Manchester City, much like they did against Chelsea in the previous round. The French start off with the home advantage and will hope to capitalize on their opponents drop in form even though they did manage a convincing win against Premiership new comers Bournemouth at the weekend.

Although the French Ligue 1 is in the bag for the champions they have still managed to drop a few points lately. With loses to Lyon and Monaco at home they also managed to drop points at home to Montpellier. To be fair to them they are currently twenty five points clear atop the table and with only six games left remaining have already been crowned champions once again.

Manchester City ended the weekend having managed to keep rivals Manchester United at bay with a 4 – 0 win over AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. They still have Arsenal and Chelsea to play which are their toughest games, although they do also still face tough opposite in Newcastle United and Swansea City who are both fighting for Premiership survival, and we all know clubs facing the drop can often pull it out of the bag and shock opposition.

Manchester City do have a good enough side to get to the final of the Champions League, but with their unpredictability lately could we potentially see them struggle away from home against the French Champions? Unless things start to improve for City we could even see them drop down into fifth, with the likes of Manchester United, West Ham and even Southampton fighting for that European spot.

PSG Team News:

Marco Verratti will be missed once again as he stuggles to get over the injury he picked up while on international duty. Javier Pastore is also unable to feature in this leg although PSG are hoping to continue their good form against the English clubs having already knocked out the English Champions Chelsea in the previous round.

Manchester City Team News:

Great news for Manchester City and England supporters as Joe Hart declares himself fit to play against PSG Wednesday night, the England goalkeeper trained on Tuesday even though team mate Yaya Toure didn’t. The midfielder is not expected to feature against PSG which will leave a big hole to feel for the manager. Raheem Stering is out injured while Samir Nasri and Kevin De Bruyne have recently returned. Club captain Vincent Kompany is of course missing while Eliaquim Mangala fills in.

PSG v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

We only have the one previous fixture between these two sides which was back in 2011 during their Europa League campaigns. These next twp ties should be full of excitement as PSG have already been crowned the Ligue 1 Champions having dominated the season with twenty five points clear and seven games left to play. Manchester City have been hit and miss all season, much like a few of the favourites like Manchester United and Chelsea.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only the one game previously played I’d of liked to give you at least a few goals, yet sadly back in 2011 the game ended goalless with nothing left to report. I however plan to take the below option for Wednesday’s Champions League 1st leg in Paris, while also hoping to not see another a goalless bore draw.

Manchester City: W L D D W

PSG are the clear favourites when it comes down to form right now. Granted the French league isn’t anywhere near as hard as the English Premiership, yet they still became Champions in style with seven games left to play and currently an incredible twenty five points clear. As already mentioned, Manchester City have been very hit and miss all season and allowed the top two to easily run away with the lead.

PSG v Manchester City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Champions League action Wednesday night can be seen live via BT Sports Europe and of course in the very clear High Definition. The home side PSG will want to make sure they make their mark on the night and come away clear winners against the last English club in the competition. having already knocked out Chelsea in the previous round they certainly have what it takes to cause another upset in this quarter final.

Having already won the French league PSG have only the one competition left to worry about and can now apply all their focus on finally winning the competition. That said there are plenty of teams in it that PSG could falter too, with Barcelona just one to mention. They are the clear favourites to walk away winners in this first leg, and they will want to make sure its a good one as going to The Etihad Stadium will certainly not be easy in the second leg.

Manchester City will be hoping to not do a repeat of what Chelsea did in the last round having lost 2 – 1 on their travels, not only that they also managed to repeat that result at Stamford Bridge which of course sealed the English Champions fate come the end of 90 minutes. We all know that Manchester City certainly have what it takes to beat a side such as PSG, as although they maybe on a glitchy run that could all change.

As for the Premier League, they really do need to start improving and grind out the results especially with Chelsea and Arsenal coming up in the next few weeks. On top of that they do face a few sides facing the relegation battle and could get caught out and drop points against the likes of Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United.

My predictions for Wednesday nights 1st leg in Paris is leaning more towards the draw or also with Manchester City sneaking in the cheeky last minute win and completely setting themselves up for the 2nd leg in Manchester. But to play safe I am going to go for both teams to score and for the game to end as a draw on the night.

The next prediction I am going for is coming up in the enhanced odds section and even though is a long shot is of course more than capable of happening on the night. That is for both of the teams involved to see their top scorers on the score sheet on the night. So for that it will be for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero to both score on the night and in 90 minutes.
