Everton v Manchester City Preview, Capital One Cup, Semi-Final 1st Leg, Wednesday 6th January 2016.

Back to Capital One Cup action this week with Everton facing favourites Manchester City in the semi final 1st leg at Goodison Park. Everton will need to make the most of being at home on Wednesday as traveling to The Etihad and coming away with a result is never an easy achievement. Everton in December were very hit and miss with only a couple of wins recorded, this does include the victory over Middlesbrough to progress into the semi-final. this competition is Everton’s only realistic chance of earning silverware this season, with that not happening is some time. The clubs FA Cup fixture on Saturday is against Dagenham & Redbridge in which Everton should easily progress into the 4th round. If Everton do win on Wednesday night they will get some practice playing at The Etihad next week when the play Manchester City away from home in the Premiership.

Manchester City are continuing to improve their form after recording a win over Premiership new boys Watford last weekend, they were however very lucky against them after being 1 – 0 down most of the match. Eight minutes from time Manchester City seemed to have changed it around when Yaya Toure equalized , only for Sergio Aguero to grab the winner two minutes later toearn the club another three points and keeping up the pressure on league leaders Arsenal. City face an FA Cup challenge at the weekend when they are away from home again but this time to fellow Premier League side Norwich City. Manchester City will be the favourites to win that game and progress to the fourth round. Everton and Crystal Palace at home after the Cup break and then a visit to London to face West Ham United close to the end of January.

Everton Team News:

Everton have a few injuries but nothing too major here with only Tyias Browning the player out for the rest of the season having undergone surgery. Tony Hibbert is still out with a knee issue and no new information on his return. James McCarthy seemed to have recovered from his groin strain, yet is again ruled out with the same issue having only lasted twenty eight minutes against Stoke City end of last year. Bryan Oviedo is a serious doubt with his hamstring still not right while Steven Pienaar has a lack of match fitness.

Manchester City Team News:

Wilfred Bony is a new injury for the club and will miss Wednesdays game against Everton with a calf strain. Gael Clichy could be back from a knee injury which is the same for Fabian Delph, we should see the pair in contention even if it’s from the bench. Fernando has a lack of match fitness so I doubt he will start. Vincent Kompany is still out with his calf while the usual Samir Nasri is injured with his hamstring.

Everton v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played against each other we have yet to see Everton grab a win either home or away. Manchester City have won four of the last five, with two being away from home. the pair have met on 161 occasions with Everton doing really well with 58 wins. Where as Manchester City have won 62 times, leaving 41 games ending as draws.

Everton: D L W L D

Manchester City: W D W L W

Everton are far from the team seen a few seasons back and are ending up being just a mid table side, where as Manchester City are fighting for titles and trophy’s with them still in all competitions. Manchester City are the favourites to win this game with the best of the odds seen below.

Everton v Manchester City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Capital One Cup semi final 1st leg action this Wednesday witnesses Everton at home verses Manchester City. The game can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and see’s the away side Manchester City as the clear and solid favourites to win. If City to win which is expected, then Everton will have barely a chance of going through as a win at The Etihad seems very unlikely as its a result not seen since back in 2010 when Everton beat City three times that year. The last time Everton beat Manchester City wasn’t so many years ago and only back in 2013 although they haven’t achieved this in the last five games played.

Everton haven’t been playing at all well recently having only won the one league game in the last seven Premiership fixtures and even that was an away 1 – 0 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day. They have drawn on four occasions which is helping them stay mid table. The two loses were against Leicester City at home as well as Stoke City at home, which was a bad one with the result ending 3 – 4 to Stoke. Manchester City are luckily keeping up with league leaders Arsenal, with a fluke of a late win against Watford at the weekend. In the last five league games City have won three and drawn and lost the once leaving them three points adrift the league leaders.

My predictions for this Wednesday nights Capitol One Cup Semi final does of course see Manchester City walk away with an easy win, as Everton are clearly not a side showing any decent form right now. So for my banker I plan to take the plan and simple Manchester City to win option, and grabbing it quick at least should give you a return. The next I am going for is Sergio Aguero to Score anytime during the game with the Argentine looking to get back to his world class form before he was injured.
