Preston North End v Blackpool Preview, Capital One Cup, Monday 5th August 2013

Yesterday we covered about the presentation of the prestigious honors being handed out by The Football League in regards to the 12 founding football club members, with Preston North End due to receive the specially commissioned blue plaque. With chairman Greg Clarke and chief operating officer Andy Williamson due to hand out such awards. With Preston North Ends manager Simon Grayson hoping to get his 4th team promoted to the second tier, he has already had the pleasure of taking Leeds, Huddersfield and Mondays opponents into the Championships and this year he is once again accredited with such a feat by football critics and local fans.

Paul Ince has done well during the transfer window having signed experienced striker Michael Chopra from Ipswich recently, having signed only a one year contract the Blackpool manager will be hoping the 29 year old has overcome his poor form at the end of last years campaign and get back to scoring plenty and add further goals to his current 105 career goals. In other news Paul Ince must be pleased to still have his son Tom Ince still on his books but admits his frustration as speculation continues over his future with the youngster looking to play at a higher level and recently turned down the chance to sign for Cardiff who are the newly promoted side from last years epic season.

Preston North End v Blackpool Team News

Preston North End Team News:

With Preston North Ends first game taking place on Saturday against Wolves, it will be a good test for new signing Kevin Davies as the ex-Bolton striker is favored to lead the line, and sadly due to an injury to club captain Stuart Beavon he will no doubt have to take up the baton once again for Mondays Capital One Cup match. Luckily enough Beavon is the only injury worry for Preston and Simon Grayson patiently awaits news of the extent of the knee injury which he suffered in the 2 – 0 win over Chorley with only being on the pitch a few moments after coming off the bench.

Blackpool Team News:

With recent signing Neal Bishop being added to the Blackpool ranks he has once again linked up with former boss Paul Ince, and although the 31 year old only signed a short 5 month contract it would still be seen as good news to the fans who see Bishops experience as key for the first stage to the season. Blackpool have added youth to the team this year and have seen England Under-21 star Jack Robinson sign on a season long loan which will bolster Manchester United legend Paul Inces leaky defense. Ince has been reasonably busy in the transfer market having made Steven Davies from Bristol City his forth signing during the summer, and with the strikers form last year with 13 goals in 38 appearances the manager will certainly be looking for the 25 year old to make a successful impact during the 2 year contract he recently signed.

Who Has The Advantage?

With the last 5 Head to Head statistics taking into account neither team really have the advantage with 3 of the games being boring draws and the remaining being a win each.

Average Goals Per Game?

A really low amount of goals here during the teams last 5 games against each other, and even before that very few goals had been scored, but with the above 5 games being taken we have only seen 7 goals scored in 5 matches, and 4 of them coming from one game which would suggest the other games have been very boring if you were looking for goals as excitement, but with the average goals per game being 1.4 I can’t see too many hitting the nets on Monday.

Tough call here with both teams being reasonably even with odds on who will win, and with the head to head stats taken into account you still can’t pinpoint who to back. So I am going to go with Blackpool with a a correct score bet.
