Bayern Munich v Benfica Preview, Champions League, Quarter Finals 1st Leg, Tuesday 5th April 2016

Bayern Munich head into this quarter final 1st leg match having came through a tough last 16 round against Juventus which they won 6-4 on aggregate. Bayern secured an important 2-2 draw in the 1st leg of that match away at the Juventus Stadium and finished the job off back in the 2nd leg at the Allianz Arena winning 4-2 which safely secured their place in these quarter finals.

Many people are saying that Bayern Munich’s job looks a lot easier against Benfica, but both the manager and the players will be aware that there are no real easy games as this stage of the tournament and it will be vital for Bayern Munich to secure the victory and gain the upper hand for the reverse fixture next wednesday night.

Benfica came through their last 16 match having secured a 1-0 victory against Zenit in their 1st leg played at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and then followed that up with a 2-1 victory away at the Stadion Petrovskiy to send them through 3-1 on aggregate.

Although that was a fine couple of performances by Benfica, they do seem to be up against a much better and well organised side in Bayern Munich and their agenda will no doubt be to try and keep this 1st leg close to give them at least some chance in the 2nd leg next week.

Bayern Munich Team News:

The hosts will be missing Badstuber and Boateng for this match as both players continue to receive treatment for respective injury related problems.

Benatia and Robben are suffering from minor knocks and will under take a late fitness test to see if they can be available. Lewandowski and Muller will lead the attack up front and with 44 goals between them so far in the Bundesliga, the Benfica defence look to be in for a very busy night.

Benfica Team News:

The visitors will be missing Julio Cesar, Lisandro Lopez, Nuno Santos and Luisao as they all continue to receive treatment for respective injury related problems.

Mitroglou and Jonas look likely to lead the attack up front for this game and both players will fancy their chances of getting their names on the score-sheet having managed to secure an impressive 37 goals between this season in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Bayern Munich v Benfica Match Betting Odds Market

Bayern Munich are the clear odds on favourites to win this game on Tuesday night with the online bookmakers and are a current best price available of 1/5 with Coral – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets For New Customers, but this does look a bit on the short side considering Benfica do have a slightly better recent form record.

The Draw is currently as big as 13/2 with Stan James – Bet £10 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers and does seem to be probably the best result that Benfica can obtain here as Bayern Munich are the very hot favourites to win this game on Tuesday night.

Benfica are not expected to win this game as their current best price avaialble of 18/1 with Ladbrokes – Receive £50 Free Bets For New Customers clearly shows, but I do think these odds are overpriced in my opinion and although I don’t expect Benfica to win, they could make this a much closer game than people might think.

Bayern Munich v Benfica Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Ok, according to the online bookmakers Bayern Munich are an absoloute certainty to win this game on Tuesday night and although I find it difficult to make any kind of argument against them doing so, I do believe that this game could turn out to be a lot closer than most people are expecting it to be.

It does seem that the bookmakers always run scared at the mention of clubs like Bayern Munich and Barcelona and we see it all the time in their extremely short odds offered up and obviously backing Munich to win this game is pretty much pointless at their current odds of 1/5 on offer.

Benfica are top of their domestic league in Portugual and came through in comfortable fashion during their last 16 match against Zenit and I think they could possibly steal a goal or two in this game what with an impressive 37 goals partnership this season between their two main strikers Mitroglou and Jonas.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Both Teams to Score as I don’t think any team that reaches this far in the tournament is going to be easy to beat and although Bayern Munich do look the clear choice to win this game, I am hoping that Benfica can at least get a goal to take back home with them for the 2nd leg in Lisbon next week.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski to score the 1st goal of this game as with a haul of 25 goals in the Bundesliga this season he does look to be the clear choice at what are reasonable enough odds to get on at.
