Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Saturday 5th March 2016.

Tottenham Hotspurs hit a snag midweek when they traveled across the city to face West Ham United. The game ended 1 – 0 to the home side and with what I have read Spurs are lucky it was just the one goal. Many are saying they have lost their bottle but then again this is the British media who often write more trash than what is actually true.

This weekends derby is one of the best awaited games of the season and on top of that this fixture has so much riding on it with both clubs fighting for the Premier League title. If Tottenham Hotspurs do manage a win over their arch rivals then they will go top of the league at least until the evening kick-off when Watford play hosts to Leicester City.

Spurs will want to win this game as they head into the remaining of the month full with Europa League action against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. They do however also have relegation battling side Aston Villa away from home and then AFC Bournemouth at home in a few weeks time. Tottenham will want to capitalize on Arsenal’s loss of form with them now losing three on the trot.

Arsene Wenger’s head is once again being called for by the clubs loyal fans which is becoming a well known joke in football now as soon as the club run into a bad run of form. That said they really shouldn’t be losing games at home to sides such as Swansea City who are just six points adrift the relegation positions.

Having once been on level points with Leicester City at the top of the league they now find themselves six points adrift with even bitter derby rivals Tottenham Hotspurs ahead by three clear points. Yet Saturdays derby could see Arsenal reduce that gap although if they do win they will still stay third due to their opponents superior goal difference.

Arsenal have an FA Cup away fixture coming up when they face Hull City in a replay after failing to beat the Championship club at home when the game ended goalless. They also have to somehow beat Barcelona in Spain in the away leg which is seen by most as clearly impossible due to the Spaniards form. They do at least have a couple of reasonably easy league games coming up with West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Good news for Tottenham Hotspurs see’s midfielder Dembele return to the selection options having recovered from a groin strain. Spurs are still missing their best defender with Jan Vertonghen out long term due to injury. Kevin Wimmer has been called in to cover the injured defender and has been doing an okay job alongside Toby Alderweireld. Alli was only used as a substitute against West Ham and it was clearly noted the club missed him as they lost 1 – 0.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal will be missing number one goalkeeper Petr Cech on Saturday with the ex Chelsea stopper pulling out of the game against Swansea City with a groin strain. They will also not be fielding defender Koscielny as he is also injured with a calf strain, leaving Arsenal’s defense weekended which was noted midweek when they lost 2 – 1 to Swansea City. The club are also missing the usual culprits Santo Cazorla (achilles), Rosicky (thigh), Jack Wilshere (leg) and Alex Oxlasde-Chamberlaon (knee).

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles between these two arch rivals we have seen a couple of draws and also the home side winning the one game, where as the other two fixtures have ended in Arsenal’s favor which were both away from home at White Hart Lane. In total we have the two meeting each other on 164 occasions where Arsenal have won more with 68 victories. Where as Spurs are not too far behind with 51 wins. Leaving 45 games ended as draws of some sort.

In the 164 games played out between the two Premiership clubs we have seen a total of 485 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.8 which is always a good selection when these two meet. I for one will be going for the below option for Saturday lunchtimes kick off.

Tottenham Hotspur: L W W L D

Arsenal: L L L D W

Both sides have been exceptional this season with them both sitting in the top three this season, yet although both sides have lost recently it is certainly the white side of London that seem to be doing better being in second and three points clear of their rivals Arsenal. Arsene Wenger’s side have lost their last three games and also before that failed to beat Hull City at home in the FA Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League action this weekend kicks-off with one of the games of the season with Arsenal having to once again play bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane. The results at the ground in recent years has seen Arsenal win there twice with once in the Capital One Cup and of course the Premier League. In the last five games played against each other Spurs have only managed the one win, can they build on that and go top of the league?

Arsenal are in dire need of a win coming into this game, and what better fixture to do it in with a potential victory over the clubs hated rivals. Arsenal are not strangers to beating Spurs away from home, yet could they fail to deliver the goods Saturday lunchtime with the teams players being hit for confidence. Do they actually have the bottle to win on Sunday and mount a serious title challenge?

Tottenham Hotspurs may of lost recently at the hands of West Ham United away from home, yet before that have been in a great run of form and sit only three points behind league leaders Leicester City. A win on Saturday will see them go level with the Foxes but also go top due to their superior goal difference. A win on Saturday will also help when they face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League knockout stages next week.

If they do win then being top could only last a few hours for Tottenham as Leicester City travel to Watford and hope to grab three points. The club face Borussia Dortmund twice this month which does have to be their toughest test as I see the Bundesliga side as potential favourites to win the trophy. Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this month should be six points for Spurs which will keep them fighting in the top three.

My predictions for this game do tend to lean more towards the draw, but due to Arsenal’s injuries I am actually fancying the home side to win outright this Saturday lunchtime. So for my banker I am going to go for both teams to score and Tottenham Hotspurs to win the match. The next I am going for is Danny Welbeck to score at anytime during the match, with the ex United striker playing exceptionally well since his return from injury.
