Juventus v Roma Preview, Serie A, Sunday 5th January 2014

Many people will have this game down as the Clash of the Titans as with just 5pts between the two sides at the top of the Serie A league table, the out come of where the title is going this season could be decided by which of these two sides win this game on sunday night.

Juventus head into the game currently on a nine match unbeaten run in the league and will be oozing with confidence having destroyed pretty much everyone put in front of them so far this season and although this does look like being a very tough game, the fans and players will certainly be pumped up for it and will no doubt be confident of obtaining the right result.

Roma still remain the only side that has not been beaten in the league this season, but they have drawn a lot of games which has them playing catch up on Juventus, but they will be fully aware that a victory in this game on sunday night would reduce the defecit to just 2pts and with their home fixture against them still to come in May, a positive result would put them right back in the title race.

Juventus v Roma Team News

Juventus Team News:

Andrea Barzagli is the only player unavailable for the hosts as he continues to receive treatment for an injury. Manager Antonio Conte will likely use a 3-5-2 formation which will see Tevez and Llorente leading the attack up front with support in midfield being provided by Vidal, Pogba and Marchisio.

Striker Carlos Tevez is the clubs current top goalscorer this season with 11.

Roma Team News:

Federico Balzaretti and Gianluca Caprari both remain unavailable for the visitors as they continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems. Manager Rudi Garcia could decide to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation that was so effective against Catania last time out which would see Destro leading the attack up front with support in behind coming from Ljajic, Totti and Gervinho.

Gervinho, Strootman and Florenzi are the clubs current top goalscorers this season with 4 each.

Juventus v Roma Recent Form (Last 5 Games – Left to Right)

Juventus: W L W W W

Roma: D D W D W

Juventus have a clear advantage on the recent form statistics having won 4 of their last 5 matches played. Roma have only managed 2 victories from their previous 5 games played, but they do remain unbeaten having drawn the other 3.

Juventus v Roma Match Betting Odds Market.

Juventus have been mighty impressive this season and with home advantage where they have an excellent record over Roma they will be confident of obtaining the right result come sunday night so no real surprise to see the online bookmakers having the hosts the clear favourites to win this game at a current best price of 7/10 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw could be a sensible play here as with Roma still unbeaten this season in the league, this game could easily end up all square come the full time whistle and at a current best price of 11/4 with Betfred (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) this does look decent value.

Roma will desperately want to win this game in order to reduce the 5pts gap and having remained unbeaten so far this season, they are obviously going to be a huge test for Juventus on sunday night and are certainly not without their chances of winning this game at what does look an overpriced odds of 9/2 with Paddy Power – (£50 Free Bets for New Customers).

Juventus v Roma Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

One of the games of the weekend this and I would expect this game to attract a large betting audience as a result. Juventus have the all important home advantage and do have an excellent record at the Juventus Arena when taking on Roma over recent season’s and for me they do look the more likely winners of this game on sunday night, especially with Llorente and Carlos Tevez leading the attack up front as they have both been in excellent form in front of goal.

Roma do remain unbeaten though this season in the league and that is some feat and although they have drawn a lot of their matches, the belief they can win this game will certainly be evident within each and every player and fan of the club.

Unfortunately I just don’t see it happening as for me Juventus have by far the stronger squad and firepower up front than Roma do and for me the best result that Rudi Garcia’s side can get from this match is a draw, so it would be worth having your saver bet on these two sides to battle out a draw come the full time whistle.

However, with the goal statistics suggesting this game to see at least a couple of goals scored and with Juventus having previously scored plenty in this fixture over the years the home win should see a return with a bit of luck.
