Swansea City v Newcastle United Preview, Premier League, Wednesday 4th December 2013

Swansea City are not having their best season in the Premier League this term and currently sit in 13th position which is actually quite alien to them with usually being a top 10 side in recent years. A win on Wednesday could really see them climb a few places but with the way their opponents Newcastle United are playing it will certainly be a tough battle. After losing twice last week which includes the home loss to Valencia in the Europa League they will need to find some confidence coming into this match and not look to deeply into the 3 – 0 loss to Manchester City at the weekend.

Newcastle United have hit the ground running with recent results having won 4 on the trot now while sweeping aside Premiership title challengers Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs. On top of that we have seen well fought out games against Norwich City and more recently against West Brom at the weekend. These turn of events have propelled Newcastle United into 6th place and they could even hit 3rd on Wednesday night if Manchester City lose while Everton and Liverpool draw. Although the more realistic would be a possible 5th as Everton have the toughest battle with a visit to current Premier League Champions Manchester United.

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea City were unlucky against Valencia in the Europa League midweek, not only the result but also the fact they lost Wilfred Bony to a hamstring injury as well as Angel Rangel with a damaged calf muscle. It is a huge blow for Swansea City and it showed with the lack of defensive abilities due to Rangel’s absence. The other heartache for the Welsh club will be Wilfred Bony especially as the striker is the only attacker who has hit the net this season.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle United are pretty much injury free right now with the exception of Ryan Taylor who is still recovering from a knee ligament injury and we have no word on when he is to return. fans are still awaiting Papiss Cisse to start firing in the goals but are happy to at least see loan striker Loic Remy continue to hit the net on a regular basis. Questions will be asked at the end of the season if Newcastle can sign the French striker on a permanent deal I am sure, especially if QPR do fail to get promoted at the end of the season.

Swansea City v Newcastle United Head to Head Statistics:

In the last year or so we have seen Swansea City playing extremely well as they tend to challenge for a top half finish and with Newcastle United the struggling team at that time we can see Swansea City experiencing the better results and having the advantage. But Newcastle United are in great form recently and I can see them coming away with the result even though they are away from home.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only 6 games to go on we only have 11 goals scored which gives us the low average of 1.8 goals per game. Even though the stats are low I still feel we will see a few goals on Wednesday night with the way Newcastle United are playing right now.

Swansea City v Newcastle United Recent Form (Left to Right)

Swansea City: L L W D D

Newcastle United: W W W W L

Newcastle United seem to have recovered from their last loss in the Premier League which was to old local rivals Sunderland, and have since then won their last 4 games including shock wins against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs. We can also include some well fought wins over West Brom and Norwich City. The loss above however was actually in the Capital One Cup against Manchester City and even they they played very well and forced City into extra time where they eventually won 2 – 0.

Swansea City v Newcastle United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account I am actually surprised to see Swansea City come out as bookmakers favourites here especially with the form Newcastle United are in. Yeah okay we have seen Swansea having the better results in the head to head statistics last year but look at both teams now and how they are playing. This time last year we were seeing the roles reversed with Swansea City competing for top spots and Newcastle fighting for scraps and its incredible to now see how those tables have turned.

So predictions predictions, what to go for you say. Well in my point of view I honestly do see Newcastle coming away as winners here on Wednesday which will also include a Loic Remy goal so with that said we could go for another Wincast which could prove to be a good choice considering how the French striker his banging in the goals. My other prediction will include both teams to score in the 90 minutes. Even though we have seen Swansea’s only scoring striker ruled out with injury I still believe the Welsh club have a goal in them.
