Everton v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 4th October 2015.

Not everyday would you say it is Everton who come into this Merseyside derby as the team in better form right now. Although the table states just one point is between the two clubs it is Everton who are in fifth, while Liverpool sit in ninth. If Manchester City lose against Newcastle United right now (which they are currently) and of course Everton win at home, then we could see them climb into second place. Well there is a lot of if’s and buts tied into this, but with the way Liverpool are playing this could very well be a blue Sunday for both clubs. In the last five games played in all competitions we have seen Everton take on and beat last years champions Chelsea, while also earning points against Spurs who are now in form.

What a terrible few months for Liverpool even though they somehow have eleven points recorded on the board. The prestigious club did manage to win a Premiership match recently, having struggled to overcome Aston Villa 3 – 2 at Anfield. Three days earlier they also struggled to win another game, this time to the lower league club Carlisle United, who managed to take Liverpool all the way to penalties. Liverpool manager Brenden Rodgers is under extreme pressure right now, and a loss against bitter rivals Everton will only add fuel to the fire in the decision to sack the ex Swansea City manager. Millions of transfer funs have been spent since he took charge, yet there is no one standing out as a stand out performer, which also looks bad on the manager.

Everton Team News:

Everton have one of the worst injury lists in the Premiership right now, with at least seven players all being unavailable or doubtful for Sundays derby. Chelsea target John Stones has been sensational this season, yet may of returned in time to feature. Leyton Baines is still out with an ankle injury, while Muhamed Besic is an extreme doubt with a sore hamstring. Tom Cleverly has been out since the Spurs game with his ankle, while Seamus Coleman is 50/50 having picked up a knock in the win over Chelsea. Tony Hibbert picked up a knee injury end of July, yet still looks unlikely to play. Kevin Mirallas serves his last match ban, and will be back to face Manchester United middle of the month.

Liverpool Team News:

Cristian Benteke is on the mend and was hoping to be back for the game against Everton, yet sadly will no doubt miss it and wont be risked. John Flanagan has been out for sometime with his knee, and no light at the end of the tunnel is yet to be seen. Jordan Henderson suffered a broken metatarsal injury during training a few weeks back, and wont be playing. Dejan Lovren is also out with an ankle issue, as well as new signing Roberto Firmino who also was injured in the Capital One Cup third round.

Everton v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games the two have mostly been at a stalemate having drawn four of the games played. Liverpool are the only ones to break that trend with a 4 – 0 humiliation of Everton at the beginning of 2014 in which Everton still search for revenge. The two have recorded 183 games against each other with Liverpool out in front with 71 wins. Everton haven’t done too badly with 52 wins and a total of 60 draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 183 games played out between the two Premiership rivals we have seen a total of exactly 460 goals scored. Which is going to give us an average of 2.5 goals per game, something which couldn’t be more wrong when looking at the inconsistency of the above table. Lets play safe and go for the below option for Sundays derby.

Everton: W W D W D

Liverpool: D W W D D

Liverpool have been in bad form all season yet somehow hove recorded elven points on the table, even though they still dwell in ninth position and a point behind Everton. The home side also have nothing to brag about, although have claimed the scalps from Chelsea in an exciting 3 – 1 victory. Best team in form are noted in the below odds.

Everton v Liverpool Match Betting Odds Market

Everton are in better form and at home for this Merseyside derby, and can no doubt be the best time for the club to record their first win against Liverpool since during the 2010 campaign. Best odds on that happening seen here @ 9/5 with Coral – Bet £5 & Get £20 Free when Registering a New Account.

The Draw has been a regular result seen between the two in previous years, with five being recorded in the last six encounters! Liverpool any other time would no doubt be the favourites to win this bitter derby, but with the form they are currently in I personally just cannot see it. Much like the bookmakers with them setting the home side down as the favourites. Best odds on Liverpool winning found @ 12/5 with Betfred – Bet £10 Get £30 Free Bets for New Registering Accounts

Everton v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action this Sunday zooms in to Goodison Park with Everton hosting against bitter legendary rivals Liverpool. The game can be viewed live via Sky Sports 1 High Definition and looks set to promise yet again another exciting match between the pair. The last game may of ended as a goalless draw, yet was still ninety minutes of end to end excitement which I had the pleasure of witnessing. Everton are a club in better form right now, having held Spurs to a draw, as well as defeating champions Chelsea in a 3 – 1 romp. They had also won their last league game in a five goal thriller away from home against West Bromwich Albion, which is never an easy task, regardless of the fact they are very close to the bottom.

Liverpool are a complete shambles right now, with many fans calling for the head of current manager Brenden Rodgers. Seems a little harsh, but then you need to look at the statistics and see that the ex Swansea man has spent an awful amount of the clubs funds, yet has nothing to show for it. A defeat against Everton on Sunday could very well be the result needed to see the man sacked, although I personally feel the man in charge has until the end of the season to make his mark.

My predictions for this Merseyside derby does tend to lean towards a draw of some kind, but come on, seriously can that result really come a six time in seven games? I’m not a man who can look into the future, and only someone who can go by his gut instinct much like yourselves when making a call. Anyway lets go for a draw with both teams scoring at least one each, and with the other I am favouring a home win by Everton and with a 2 – 0 score line!
