Newcastle United v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 4th March 2015.

Newcastle United are having a decent enough season and picked up an important victory over the weekend at home against Aston Villa and the magpies look safe enough from becoming involved in the relegation battle for survival if they continue to play well.

Manchester United are looking very much like the side of old this season since the appointment of manager Louis Van Gaal and although the Premiership title does look out of reach this time around, they still look good to secure a place in the Champions league next season and after a comfortable 2-0 victory at home against Sunderland over the weekend, the confidence in the squad is obviously at an all time high and the players will definitely believe that they can win this game on Wednesday night.

Newcastle United Team News:

The hosts will be without the services of Paul Dummett, Remy Cabella, Cheikh Tiote, Robert Elliot, Rolando Aarons, Siem de Jong and Steven Taylor for this game as they all continue to receive treatment for respective injury related problems. Papiss Demba Cisse is the clubs current top goalscorer in the league this season with 11 goals and will lead the attack up front alongside Ayoze Perez or Sammy Ameobi.

Manchester United Team News:

The visitors have almost a full squad available, but will be without striker Robin Van Persie as he currently receives treatment for an ankle problem. Wayne Rooney is the clubs joint current top goalscorer along with Robin Van Persie in the league this season with 10 goals and will lead the attack up front alongside Radamel Falcao.

Wednesday night’s game from St James’ Park will become the 140th meeting between the two clubs overall. Newcastle United have won 34 of these, with 26 having came at home, where as Manchester United have won 69 with 27 of those having came at St James’ Park.

Our head to head statistics table below, shows the last five meetings between the two clubs over recent season’s and as we can see it has been Manchester United who have dominated proceedings with an impressive four victories to Newcastle United’s one victory.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

476 Goals have been scored in the previous 139 games played between the two clubs over the years and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 3.42.

243 of those Goals have came in the previous 69 matches played between the two clubs at St James’ Park and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic for this game of 3.52.

As we can see both sets of data above show that we should expect to see at least 3 goals scored in this game on Wednesday night and the logical choice from a betting point of view does seem to be taking the Over 2.5 Goals selection from the online bookmakers.

Newcastle United v Manchester United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Both sides are heading into this game having won over the weekend, so both will obviously feel that they can also win this game. Newcastle United were fortunate 1-0 winners against Aston Villa for me though and although they did manage to keep a clean sheet in that game, I don’t expect them to do so on Wednesday night when playing host against Manchester United.

United were comfortable 2-0 winners at home against Sunderland, Wayne Rooney scored a brace in that game and Louis Van Gaal’s side look much more threatening with the England captain back in his familiar role up front.

If we look at the overall head to head statistics for this game, they show Manchester United having enjoyed much the better of it when these two sides have met over the years and have even won more games at St James’ Park than their hosts and with the current odds available on United to win this game being very reasonable, my Banker selection is going to be for Manchester United to Win.

The average goals per game statistics are suggesting we should see at least 3 goals grace the back of the nets in this one, so my Saver is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Manchester United to Win as I can possibly see the hosts getting one with a striker like Papiss Cisse back in goal scoring form.
