Bolton Wanderers v Liverpool Preview, FA Cup 4th Round Replay, Wednesday 4th February 2015

Bolton Wanderers performed admirably well in the original fixture at Anfield and thoroughly deserved the replay. But after such a poor season in the Championships questions are being asked if the club have it in them to beat this huge Premiership side, Liverpool. Since the goalless draw at Anfield, Bolton Wanderers have lost away from home to Rotherham united 4 – 2 as well as drawing 2 – 2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at home. Everybody loves an underdog in any competition and it will be no different on Wednesday when these two sides meet again for a place in 5th round.

Liverpool see themselves knocked out of the Capital One Cup last week when Chelsea eventually beat them 1 – 0 in extra time at the Bridge. Again it was another replay with the first attempt ending 1 – 1 at Anfield in January. Since their exit they have gone on to beat West Ham United in the Premiership and now see themselves in seventh position just two points behind Tottenham Hotspurs. Not only will they want to win on Wednesday, but the club have a very important fixture at the weekend when they play in the Merseyside Derby against bitter rivals Everton who are not enjoying life this season with them close to a relegation battle.

Bolton Wanderers Team News:

Bolton Wanderers signed Manchester United full back Saidy Janko during the transfer window, while defender Andy Kellett goes the other way. They also signed Celtic midfielder Filip Twardzik on a two and a half year deal while also signing Barry Bannan on loan from Crystal Palace.  Goals have come from all over with Mills, Pratley, Joe Mason and Davies all having scored four this season.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have a couple of injuries right now with John Flanagan being one with his hamstring. Stand in goalkeeper Brad Jones was given his chance in December when Mignolet was dropped due to bad form. Yet pulled up with a thigh strain and was substituted. Daniel Sturridge has returned from a five month injury spell and managed to score in his first game back against West Ham.

Bolton Wanderers v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters between these two clubs we have seen Liverpool win it with three victories, one loss and a draw most recently. In total we have seen 107 fixtures played where Liverpool have won 49 and Bolton Wanderers winning 30. Meaning we have also seen 28 draws in total.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 107 games played out between these two sides we have seen a total of 305 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 2.8 goals scored. In reality I would say that statistic would be a safe bet, yet Liverpool without Sturridge do seem to struggle for goals. Yet now the England striker has returned we could see a couple or more goals scored on Wednesday.

Liverpool: W L D D W

Bolton Wanderers were starting to improve under new management yet lately seem to have declined again with three draws, a loss and a single win. Liverpool have been better yet not prolific with just two wins and draws, and then the loss against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup.

Bolton Wanderers v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup 4th Round Replay action on Wednesday night will see Championship side Bolton Wanderers welcome Liverpool to the Macron Stadium. Bolton Wanderers did exceptionally well when the two first met in the original fixture when they managed to complete the 90 minutes goalless. Liverpool would of preferred the home win and know this replay will be a lot tougher considering. Even with the return of Daniel Sturridge it will take a very good Liverpool performance to see themselves into the 5th round.

Liverpool’s form has been hit and miss this season and recently were knocked out of the Capital One Cup against Chelsea, regardless of playing very well and the better team over the two fixtures. Bolton Wanderers were performing well after new management took over, yet in their last five fixtures seem to have slipped somewhat. Liverpool are the solid favourites to win on Wednesday night, yet we could still see an upset if Bolton Wanderers do decide to turn up and put in a performance.

My predictions for this game will at first back Liverpool to win one way or the other, while the next will be for a draw of some kind after 90 minutes. I may even look at Liverpool to win after extra time and check the odds on that, as that could very well be a good option. But for the first I am going to welcome back Daniel Sturridge with him to score and Liverpool to win. With the next one being both teams to score and for them to draw after ninety minutes.
