Fulham v Sheffield United Preview, FA Cup, Tuesday 4th February 2014

It has been an absoloute dreadful season for Fulham and the way things are looking at the moment they do  look destined to be relegated from the Premiership into the Championship come the end of the season having only managed to secure 6 wins from their 24 matches played and although this competition does provide a welcome distraction to what is happening in the league, is it really the best thing for Fulham football club at the moment ?

Sheffield United are also having a season to forget as they currently occupy 2nd bottom position in League One having only managed to secure 6 victories from their 27 matches played this season and it does seem a bit strange to see these two club having reached this far of the competition with their performances in the league having been so poor and of course with the first game between these two clubs having finished 1-1 at Bramall Lane just over a week ago now, this really is a toin coss to which of these clubs will win this game on tuesday night.

Fulham Team News:

Matthew Briggs is the only main casualty for this game as he continues to recover from a hernia operation. John Arne Riise and Fernando Amorebieta will under take a late fitness test to see if they can be involved in this one.

Sheffield United Team News:

Shaun Miller will be missing for the visitors as he begins recovery for cruciate ligament damage and looks likely to miss the remainder of the season and Michael Doyle is suspended having been sent off in the 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane.

Fulham v Sheffield United Head to Head Statistics:

Tuesday night’s game from Craven Cottage will become the 22nd match between these two clubs over the years which has seen Fulham win 5 times (4 at Craven Cottage), Sheffiled United win 9 times (3 at Craven Cottage) and the remaining 3 matches (3 at Craven Cottage) having finished all level.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

55 Goals have been scored in the previous 21 matches played between these two clubs over the years which provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.61 and with 27 goals having been scored in the 10 matches played at Craven Cottage we are provided with an average goals per game statistic of 2.70.

Both average goal per game statistics suggest that this game on Tuesday night should see at least a couple of goals scored.

Fulham v Sheffield United Recent Form (Left to Right)

Fulham: W L D L L

Sheffield United: W L D D L

Neither of these two clubs have been in the best of form recently with both having only managed to secure just one victory each from their last five matches played. However, Fulham have lost three of these, compared to Sheffield United having only lost twice.

Fulham v Sheffield United Match Betting Odds Market

Fulham have been made the clear odds on favourites to win this game on tuesday night at a current best price of just 4/6 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bets for New Customers) which for me looks extremely short indeed considering their recent form and the fact all the players will be suffering from low confidence.

The Draw could be a sensible choice here as with the previous meeting just over a week ago having finished all square and both clubs hardly in the best of form, I can quite easily see this game finishing up all square and possibly penalties and at a current best price of 3/1 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) this does look the value play here.

Sheffield United are not only two divisions below their oponnents, but they are also second bottom of the league, but they have been producing the goods in this competition having already knock out Aston Villa, so they are certainly not without a chance of adding yet another Premiership scalp to their collection and at a current best price of 5/1 with Stan James (£10 Free Bets for New Customers) I can see plenty of Sheffield United fans getting their money on their side to win this game.

Fulham v Sheffield United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Sheffield United are the huge under-dogs here and despite being two divisions lower than their hosts, they can’t be completely ruled out of getting something from this game as they proved just over a week ago when managing a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane.

Fulham certainly have the stronger side on paper though and now with perfect pitch conditions, I would expect the hosts to win this game on tuesday night as their current short odds from the bookmakers reflect.

Unfortunately, those odds offer little value for a side that has only managed three victories at Craven Cottage this season in the league and with the average goals per game statistics suggesting this game to see at least a couple of goals scored, the Anytime Goalscorer’s betting market looks the place to concentrate on here when looking for some value.

Darren Bent had a number of chances in the 3-0 defeat at home against Southampton in the Premiership fixture over the weekend and had it not been for some excellent saves by the Southampton keeper Artur Boruc, the result of that match could of been much different and I think Darren Bent can make ammends in this game on tuesday night.
