Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, FA Cup, Saturday 4th January 2014

Arsene Wenger this week welcomes new Cardiff City boss Ole Solskjaer into his new position with a couple of days before that struggling to beat them at home as Cardiff battled on until the 88th minute where once out of favor striker Nicklas Bendtner broke the deadlock hammering in his close effort after David Marshall made an amazing save to deny Bacary Sagna’s powerful header. Two minutes later Walcott was sent clear by a lovely pass by England’s Jack Wilshere where he then chipped the ball over the helpless Marshall to earn Arsenal the indecisive victory. The win sent Arsenal back to the top after Manchester City battled in their own game away from home to Swansea City which ended 3 – 2 in Man City’s favor.

Tottenham Hotspurs new manager Tim Sherwood must be on cloud nine right now after sealing yet another victory but this time over last years Premiership Champions Manchester United who have now lost four games at Old Trafford, a feat which is usually unheard of and once again sports pundits bring in the word transition. Spurs however move into this game having won three and drawn the other under Sherwood and have renewed their confidence and no doubt look to continue it. One of the major factors has been the reintroduction of Adenayor who has now scored four goals in the last five games but could be set to miss this match after being stretchered off against the Champions.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsene Wenger has come to the point he feared most, and that was getting injuries to key players at a stage in the season where they are doing so well. It showed against Cardiff City as they had to wait until the 88th minute to get their first goal. With Giroud out injured for that game we are unsure if the Frenchman will feature for the game against Spurs with a sore ankle. But with stand in striker Bendtner also picking up an ankle injury against Cardiff it could leave Arsenal in a delicate position with such little strike options available. Arsenal are also without Ramsey with a thigh strain and German assist wizard Ozil who is nursing a shoulder injury. Rumor mills are spinning regarding Arsenal and the January transfer window with ex Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Berbatov being linked with a move back to North London to play for the league leaders.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs are also suffering with injuries right now with the recent addition being the two Brazilians Sandro (knock) and Paulinho with ankle ligaments issues. no news yet of striker Adebayor who was taken off on a stretcher nearing the end of the game against Manchester United after opening the scoring. We also see England striker Defoe missing with a hamstring injury and transfer rumors regarding his future at the club is still very much unsure. Tim Sherwood could be forced to recall Tom Carroll who is currently on loan to QPR and as he cannot feature in their own FA Cup clash against Everton Sherwood could choose to have him help out with Spurs injury ravaged midfield.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

Tottenham Hotspurs have become a better team these last few years and the result has given us and Spurs fans some better results against an Arsenal side who usually grab the needed result against their bitter rivals. In total we have 158 epic battles to note with Arsenal winning 65 to Tottenham Hotspurs 50, as well as 43 draws and 20 of them at Arsenal’s ground. Arsenal are doing very well this season and sit top the league and will no doubt wish to progress into the next round and would love it to be at the expense of Tottenham Hotspurs.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In those 158 London derby’s we have seen an incredible 452 goals scored which gives us an average of 2.86 goals per game, and with these two sides being in good form I can see end to end stuff at The Emirates on Saturday.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form (Left to Right)

Arsenal: W W W D L

Tottenham Hotspur: W W D W L

Arsenal may be the team here showing the best form but I would say it is this new Tottenham Hotspurs team under stand in manager Tim Sherwood who could have the edge. Arsenal were lucky against Cardiff City Wednesday and took until the last few minutes to grab both their goals, where as Spurs took on Manchester United at Old Trafford and came away victors.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

This is a game the footballing world will be waiting for, fans and neutrals alike will be switching on their televisions to once again watch the most famous of London Derby’s. Nothing beats an Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs game when its comes down to bittle rivalries and this game will be no different with both teams looking for their first piece of silverware in some years. Arsenal are themselves flying high and sitting atop the Premiership with leading a fine bunch of title hopefuls in this years Premiership race.

There has to be at least six teams who have the potential to win this years most prestigious English reward. To win the Premiership is why so many players wish to play in the best league in the world and with the historic FA Cup to also take part in it is why so many rate England’s competitions as the finest. So coming into this game and taking everything into account who would you place your money on come Saturday evening?

Its a tough choice that’s for sure, so I plan to place a bet in both of the teams favor. This is purely because Arsenal are struggling in recent weeks although still grinding out the results, and also seeing Tottenham Hotspurs renewed vigor under Tim Sherwood. So without a due my first comes with Arsenal winning and for Walcott to score which could prove to be worth while. The other is for both teams to score and Tottenham Hotspurs to Win which maybe an outside bet but with the way they are playing and with these derby’s being so unpredictable it could just happen.
