Derby County v Watford Preview, Championship, Friday 3rd April 2015

Derby County head into this game having lost their last two league matches on the bounce which makes the importance of winning this game on Friday night even more crucial if Steve McClaren’s side are to stay in the hunt for the league title.

In fact we have to go back to the 24th of February to find the last time that Derby County recorded a victory when they beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 at the Ipro Stadium and that really is not the form required from a club that is looking to win the league title and they will have to be much better in this game on Friday as they are up against a very good side in Watford.

Watford head into the game having suffered a 1-0 defeat at home against Ipswich Town and that was the clubs first defeat in seven matches. The players will be looking to bounce back from that disappointing result and with Derby County having struggled to win game in recent weeks, the visitors certainly have a good opportunity to return back to winning ways.

Derby County Team News:

The hosts have had a number of injury problems to some of their key players in recent months but with Chris Martin, George Thorne and Zak Whitbread having all now fully recovered from respective injury problems and all now back involved in training Steve McClaren has a tough decision to make in terms of which starting eleven to play on Friday night.

John Eustace is still unavailable for the hosts however as he has had to have another operation on a long term injury problem.

Watford Team News:

The visitors will be without Almen Abdi as he still receives treatment for a hamstring injury and Sean Murray is also unavailable as he recovers from knee surgery. Troy Deeney, Matej Vydra and Odion Ighalo will lead the attack up front and will be looking to add to the 48 goals scored between them this season in the league.

Derby County v Watford Head to Head Statistics:

Friday night’s game from the iPro Stadium will become the 32nd meeting between the two clubs. Derby County have won 13 times with 8 having came with home advantage where as Watford have won 9 times with 3 having came at the iPro Stadium.

49 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 15 matches played at the iPro Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic for this match of 3.26.

Both sets of data shown above seem to strongly suggest that we should see plenty of goals scored in this game.

Derby County v Watford Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Derby County have been in free-fall during the month of March and really need to try and turn their form around if they are to stand any chance of making the end of season play offs. Steven McClaren has had to deal with a number of injuries to some of his key players though and with them all having now fully recovered and back in training I am expecting to see a much better performance by the hosts in this game on Friday night.

Watford had been on a very good run of results up until their 1-0 defeat at home against Ipswich Town last time out and it will be interesting to see how the Watford players respond to that defeat in this game as the iPro Stadium has not been a very good hunting ground for Watford over the years and we have to go back to the 10th of March 2012 to find the last time Watford beat Derby County.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting this match to see plenty in the way of goals and with Derby County having back some of their key players that have been missing through injury recently I am expecting both teams to find the back of the net in this one.

My Banker Prediction is going to be for the game to see Over 2.5 Goals as I am expecting one of these teams to win the game 2-1.

My Saver is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Draw as I can also see this one ending up in a 1-1 draw come the full time whistle.
