Birmingham City v Hull City Preview, Championship, Thursday 3rd March 2016.

Birmingham City’s promotion push took a knock at the weekend when they traveled to London to face Queens Park Rangers. The game ended 2 – 0 with two first half goals which has now left the midlands club four points adrift Sheffield Wednesday who occupy that 6th place play-off spot. This fixture wont be an easy one for Birmingham City as Hull City are still the favourites to win the title.

After this fixture against Hull we do see them also having some tough opponents with Blackburn Rovers and Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home, before then facing Fulham and Charlton Athletic who are fighting in a relegation survival battle. There are plenty of points to be had for Birmingham City, and only some solid performances will see them through as potential promotion hopefuls.

Hull City themselves have struggled lately to score goals, with only three being achieved over the last five games played. A good point to be noted however is that they have also failed to concede any, which has seen the club earn three goalless draws against tough sides such as Arsenal in the FA Cup and promotion hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion.

After this game against Birmingham City we see Hull City once again face Arsenal in the FA Cup replay, and this time with them at home and in with a chance of progressing into the next round. They then have some easier games with MK Dons and Nottingham Forest before then traveling to Middlesbrough for an extremely tough game, especially as the club are on joint points and hoping for promotion themselves.

Birmingham City Team News:

Sadly for Birmingham City fans they will not be seeing striker James Vaughan don a shirt due to a calf injury. They may also be without midfielder Stephen Gleeson although we are unsure yet if he will feature at all due to an illness. Also missing is striker Nicolai Brock-Madsen who has an injury to his leg.

Hull City Team News:

Hull City currently have no injuries in the squad and will face Birmingham City with plenty of choices available to manager Steve Bruce. On loan midfielder Nick Powell could start with him potentially adding some much needed fire power to a Hull side who are seriously struggling for goals right now. Another loanee Chuba Akpom could be hoping for a starting position, and with the Arsenal youngster being a striker Bruce may not have much of an option if the lad can score goals.

Birmingham City v Hull City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we have seen Hull City come out on top with three wins, a loss and a distant draw away from home. The last time Hull City faced Birmingham City at home was in a friendly in which the home side won, yet before that back in 2012 we did see Hull win the game 3 – 2 and then also at home 5 – 2.

In total we have 12 games recorded between the two Championship sides with Hull City winning five, and Birmingham City winning just three, leaving the remaining four games ending in draws of some kind.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 12 games we have recorded between the clubs there have been a total of 30 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.5 which as you can see above is very hit and miss. With the way Hull City are defending I can’t see many goals if any scored against them, and with them also struggling for goals we may also struggle on that front. Yet the below option is what I am going for.

Both teams are doing well in the league right now although it is Hull City are are flying high just one point of the top and with a game in hand. They are however struggling to score goals and it is only their solid defense which is keeping them in the points.

Hull City are the bookmakers solid favourites to win the game this Thursday and it can only be down to the fact they are conceding so few goals. Birmingham City v Hull City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this Thursday night has Birmingham City verses title chasing Hull City, and can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 in High Definition at the St Andrew’s Stadium. Although Birmingham City are not the favourites to win the game, if they did manage it then their push for promotion via the play-offs could potentially be back on track after having lost last weekend away from home to Queens Park Rangers.

I know we have mentioned that Hull City are struggling for goals we can also comment on the same issues at Birmingham City having only scored twice in the last five games played. February hasn’t been the best of months for the club who have only won the one game against relegation strugglers Bolton Wanderers. They have also lost and drawn twice  and need to get back to winning ways if they wish to earn a promotion.

Hull City as mentioned are in a goal drought having only scored on three occasions in their last six games played in all competitions. They have however played Arsenal in the FA Cup and promotion hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield Wednesday who have themselves all earned goalless draws. They have in this time also managed a couple of well fought wins and could go top at the end of Thursday night.

Hull City do have a full squad completely injury free so I can not understand why they have all of a sudden hit a brick wall when it comes down to scoring goals. Yet will need to find their shooting boots once again if they wish to win the Championship and progress into the next round of the FA Cup at the expense of Premiership title chasing Arsenal.

My predictions for this game does see Hull City win and I do think they will achieve such by not conceding a goal. I am thinking they could win by one or more goals on the night, as their defensive record is certainly impressive having not conceded in the last five matches played in all competitions. So for my first I feel Hull City winning by a 1 goal margin should be a good option as a banker.

For my second prediction I am going to take the latter and select a total goals scored bet. For this I am going to go for only two goals scored during the game which I do feel is more than possible with the way both are scoring and conceding.
