Watford v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 3rd February 2016.

With the FA Cup 4th Round now out of the way it’s back to Premiership action this week as Watford take on Chelsea at Vicarage Road. Watford enjoyed their FA Cup tie against Championship side Nottingham Forest on Saturday as they beat them 1 – 0 away from home and have now set themselves up for a 5th round tie at home against Leeds United. If the Premiership newcomers manage to beat Chelsea on Wednesday night they can head back up the table into seventh just ahead of Liverpool unless they manage to beat Leicester City on Tuesday. It will also depend on Stoke City and Southampton who both have tough matches on Tuesday against Manchester United and Arsenal respectfully. Watford have a tough match coming up at the weekend as they visit White Hart Lane to face in form Tottenham Hotspurs before they then fight it out against fellow Londoners Crystal Palace the week after.

Chelsea as expected completely smashed MK Don’s in the FA Cup 4th Round on Sunday and as predicted by us both teams did score on the day and Chelsea winning. Chelsea however do potentially have the toughest draw in the 5th round as they are set to welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge and live in hope that their form keeps rising like it has in recent weeks with a win over Arsenal away from home to note. After this away game to Watford we do see Chelsea at home against Manchester United at the weekend and the Newcastle United a week later. After that it’s back to the Champions League for Chelsea with them set to travel to France to face PSG in the first leg of the knock out stages.  Chelsea are the favourites to win on Wednesday night and if they achieve it then they could climb a couple of positions into 11th.

Watford Team News:

Watford rested a few names against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and it payed off as the visitors won 1 – 0 on the day. We could see Mario Suarez make his debut after joining from Serie A at the weekend and sadly for Watford they can’t play Nathan Ake as he is not eligible to face his parent club. Tommie Hoban and Joel Ekstrand are still injured and we should see Jose Holebas should start in midfield.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea could start Cesar Azpilicueta and Kurt Zouma who were unused substitutes against MK Don’s and we are unsure on Chelsea’s best player this season, Willian, after being injured on Sunday. Loic Remy was in the news a lot regarding a transfer yet wont be played due to a calf injury. New signings Pato could possibly play although Matt Miazga wont be selected.

Watford v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played we have seen Chelsea pretty much dominant over Watford although this season they did slip up as the two drew back on Boxing Day. In total we only have 16 games recorded between the pair in which Watford have done well having won 5 and lost 8, leaving the remaining 3 games ending as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 16 games played out between the two Premiership clubs we have seen a total of 53 goals scored. Which is going to give us a goals per game average of 3.3 which is very impressive. As you can see in the last four games played it could be a good bet to be betting on a high scoring game, yet I am going to play safe with the below selection.

Watford are a team in reasonable form and we need to be honest here and recognize that Watford are a new team in this high paced Premier League. Chelsea have improved recently with a win over Arsenal away from home to be proud of. We do need to take note though that in the last five games two of these wins have been against lower league sides in the FA Cup.

Watford v Chelsea Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Back to Premiership action this week with Watford welcoming Chelsea to Vicarage Road as they look to improve on the draw they earned at Stamford Bridge back on Boxing Day. The game can be viewed live on BT Sports 1 High Definition on Wednesday night and either team here can potentially win a few league table positions if they themselves manage a win tomorrow. Watford were higher up in the league before Christmas yet a loss at home to Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City see them drop somewhat. They then also lost against Southampton and Swansea City which as you can imagine didn’t help. The last two games however has seen them play better with a win against Newcastle United in the league and an FA Cup win against Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea have seen themselves improve somewhat in the last nine games with three league wins and four draws in the Premier League and they have also beaten Scunthorpe United and MK Don’s to go through into the 5th Round of the FA Cup with a tough tie against Manchester City. It does look better for the Champions yet I doubt we will be seeing them anywhere near the top four come the end of the season especially with the top four currently playing very well. With the way Manchester United are playing they could very well be higher than them come the end of the season but that is only if Chelsea can continue picking up points.

My predictions for this game are all over the place here because in one hand I would love the underdog to carry on their impressive start to Premiership life, and the other hand has to consider Chelsea’s much improved form in the last nine games. I am wondering if another draw is on the cards here so very well do fancy that as my banker with both teams to score on the night. The next I am going for is Chelsea to score in both halves of the game which is currently coming in with enhanced odds.
