Manchester City v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Monday 3rd February 2014

Manchester City look over the Premiership title race last week from an Arsenal side who failed to take advantage of a mid table Southampton. Arsenal could however take back that mantle from City as they play an in form Crystal Palace this Sunday. A result for Arsenal will pile on the pressure for Pellegrini’s side as they face a very strong Chelsea side on Monday. It will be a must win for Manchester City as failure will allow Jose Mourinho’s side to draw level on points. The goal difference battle is still with Manchester City however who nearly double Chelsea’s +23.

Chelsea head into this game knowing they have already beaten Manchester City this season and with being able to play without any pressure they could capitalize on any nerves City may possess coming into this game. Of course the nerves will be few and rely heavily on Arsenal’s result on Sunday against Tony Pulis’s Crystal Palace. Chelsea only trail Manchester City by 3 points so a win at the Etihad Stadium will be top priority for the Special One.

Manchester City Team News:

Joe Hart’s blunders seem to now be behind the goalkeeper as Manuel Pellegrini has heaped praise on the England number 1 in recent days. It will be a huge boost for Hart and England as the World Cup gets closer. Sergio Aguero once more hits the injury table with a hamstring issue and we also have James Milner(groin), Javi Garcia(knock) and Samir Nasri(Crucial knee ligament) missing from selection.

Chelsea Team News:

Fernando Torres was only lucky to have a slight pull on his crucial knee ligaments and should be back in the next week or so. We also see Chelsea are without long term injury Marco van Ginkel who isn’t so fortunate and will be out for the rest of the season. Although the young Dutchman should be back in training soon and be available for the reserves.

Manchester City v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

In the last 5 head to head statistics we can see that Manchester City have dominated Chelsea with 4 wins and 1 loss. Granted 2 of the games were pre-season friendlies. All of these 5 games were played last year. If we look at the 133 games played in total we can see that Chelsea have won 53 to Manchester City’s 44 which would give the London club the overall advantage.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In those 133 games played we have a very respectable amount of goals scored over the years, and with 374 goals scored if gives us a very nice average of 2.8 goals per game. So we could see a few goals scored on Monday night.

Manchester City v Chelsea Recent Form (Left to Right)

Manchester City: W W W W W

Chelsea: D W W W W

Manchester City head into this game 20 games unbeaten in all competitions which is far better than Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea who have lost 4 times in 20 games giving Manchester City the form advantage heading into this Monday night clash.

Manchester City v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account Monday nights football match will be something the world will be tuning in to watch. It will be an important game for both clubs and managers as they battle it out for the famous English Premiership Crown. Chelsea have already beaten Manchester City at The Bridge this season and I can only imagine Pellegrini’s men will want to return the favour by beating Chelsea for a 5th time in the last twelve months.

It will be end to end stuff on Monday night and it will all come down to who has the luck. We could see Chelsea finally end Manchester City’s run of twenty games unbeaten but it will have to take something special and I can only imagine it coming from someone like Eden Hazard who is in world class form right now. With Sergio Aguero missing from the Manchester City lineup the pressure will be on Negredo and Dzeko to step up and fill the Argentinian’s prolific boots.

So these two above statements will feature in both of my predictions with the first being Eden Hazard to score and Chelsea to win in the 90 minutes. The other we be for both teams to score and Manchester City to win on the night. With both covered you can see I personally feel the game can go either way. Depending on Arsenal’s result against Crystal Palace on Sunday I feel an Arsenal win will pile on some pressure to this in form Manchester City side.

Chelsea defended like machines although might of been a different story if Aguero was not injured and Fernandinho was playing, great result for the blue’s though.
