Sheffield United v Notts County Preview, 2013 League 1, Friday 2nd August 2013

With Sheffield United boss David Weir raring to go in what will be his first game in charge of the Blades it will be important for him to come up with the goods after permanently replacing Danny Wilson in May. Not only is it his first game but there will also be celebrations for the 125th launch of the Football League and who better for Sheffield United to play than the worlds oldest football team Notts County.

The Blades come into the match unbeaten after eight summer friendlies and having played very well all through preseason which the ex Everton player pays tribute to how far they have progressed recently.

Notts County have had their fair share of success during preseason also having drawn against Ipswich in a six goal thriller, and with County being quite busy in the transfer market they have managed to snap up some impressive names with former Celtic midfielder Mark Fotheringham among the names after impressing the club during a trial. Chris Kiwomya was impressed with the 29 year old and soon offered terms for a permanent deal which with other signings the Magpies are setup up to do well and make a challenge for promotion to the Championship.

Sheffield United v Notts County Team News

Sheffield United Team News:

With a managerial debut for David Weir, who should be set to impress in his first game for Sheffield United. It looks promising after the Blades signed new striker Lyle Taylor from Scottish outfit Falkirk who scored an incredible 29 goals last season. Taylor would be Weir’s 5th signing this summer and an impressive one at that if the 23 year old can recreate last years form for this seasons promotion challenge.

Notts County Team News:

Notts County have confirmed recently that academy product Fabian Spiess has agreed a new long term contract after having impressed last year when the club found themselves in a goal keeping crisis. The 19 year old was giving the chance to sink or swim last season and proved to do well with some incredible performances and even earned himself two man of the match awards. With goal keeping coach Kevin Pilkington showing faith in the youngster it was all he needed to excel with the chances he was given.

Although these two teams have met many times before I have listed the last 5 recent matches which show Sheffield United having the upper hand here having not lost to Notts County in recent seasons.
