Aston Villa v Norwich City Preview, Premiership, Sunday 2nd March 2014

Aston Villa have been on a very bad run of games recently and will see this game against Norwich who are level on points with Aston Villa as a massive game in terms of their survival hope.

Villa’s last outing saw them lose late on to a strike from Newcastle United’s Loic Remy but can count themselves very unfortunate to come away from St James’ Park empty handed. Since Christian Benteke has returned from injury he has looked lost and un-motivated from the player we saw when he first joined the club in 2012 from Fc Genk and with him not scoring and Gabby Agbonlahor also misfiring this season its understandable that Villa sit just 4 points above those dreaded relagation positions.

Norwich will be absolutely delighted with their last game which saw them beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Carrow road last Sunday thanks to a fine strike from Robert Snodgrass. Norwich sit one place behind their opponents Aston Villa but are level on points with them and will see this as a huge game in their bid for survival this season but they were are also on a bad run of form before that win against Spurs.

Gary Hooper has been a great signing for Norwich but the same cant be said for Ricky Van Wolfswinkel who has managed just one premier league goal this season.

Aston Villa Team News:

Jores Okore, Charles Nzogbia and Libor Kozack still remain unavailable for manager Paul Lambert as they try to recover from long term injury problems. Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor should both be fit for Sunday’s visit of Norwich who both picked up slight knocks against Newcastle last weekend.

Norwich City Team News:

Chris Hughton and his Norwich team will be happy going into this game as there only injured player is midfielder Ryan Bennett who has a crucial ligament injury and has been out for six months but he is expected to return to action for the start of next season.

Aston Villa v Norwich City Head to Head Statistics:

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the previous 42 games these two clubs have played before we see that there has been a total of 121 goals scored which gives us an average of 2.88 goals per game.

At villa Park there has been 20 games played with 65 goals being scored which gives us an average of 3.25 goals per game. Taking both statistics into account I think we should see at least a couple of goals scored on Sunday and even the possibility of maybe 3 or 4 hitting the back of the nets if the Villa strikers discover their goal scoring boots.

Aston Villa v Norwich City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Aston Villa: W L L D L

Norwich City: D L D L W

As we can see above, Norwich City have a slightly better record over the last five games played and with them winning there last match against Spurs they will go into this much more confident than Aston Villa, although having said that the home advantage might be the thing that decides this tie in a match where both clubs will be desperate to claim all 3pts in their bid for Premiership survival.

Aston Villa v Norwich City Match Betting Odds Market

Aston Villa might be in a poor run of form and there strikers are not firing on all cylinders but that has not stopped the bookies making them as favourites for this encounter with the best price coming in at 11/10 with Coral (Deposit £5, Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw is seen as a possibility by bookmakers probably down to both sides league positions and the fact that Norwich won their last game and Villa are at home. The best possible odds for this game to finish all square are available at 12/5 from Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers).

Norwich City are the under-dogs in this game probably down to the fact that Aston Villa have home advantage in this game on sunday afternoon, but with Norwich having had an impressive victory against Spurs last weekend their current best price of 14/5 with Bet365 (£200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers) does look value here and I can certainly see plenty of people getting on this.

Aston Villa v Norwich City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

A difficult game to be really confident about picking a confident winner from as I get the feeling most fans will not see this as a goal scoring classic but there is all to play for in this game as the winner will move 3pts clear of the loser in the league table and although Norwich City did have an excellent win against Spurs last weekend I personally will be predicting an Aston Villa win here as they are the home team and i think that will be the deciding factor when all is said and done.

Also with the average goals per game statistics suggesting this game to see at least a couple of goals scored and Aston Villa having dominated proceedings in the recent meetings shown in the head to head statistics table, a saver on Villa to win 2-0 could see a nice profit return at what are decent odds.
