Arsenal v Crystal Palace Preview, Premiership, Sunday 2nd February 2014

Arsene Wenger will not of been happy with Tuesdays league result away from home to Southampton as they really gave his side a run for their money after taking the lead just after twenty minutes. It took until the 2nd half for Arsenal to come alive and then scored two quick goals by Giroud and Cazorla. Only for England international Adam Lallana to equalize two minutes later which is how the result ended. The last ten minutes Arsenal did have to hang on after Mathieu Flamini see a straight red which wouldn’t of helped his side out with the end result.

Crystal Palace have a new lease of life under new manager Tony Pulis and have won and lost two and drawing one other in the last Premiership fixtures. It has been enough to pull them out of the relegation battle and they now sit four points clear of West Ham United who have replaced them in the bottom three. They have managed some some great wins over Stoke and Hull City in recent weeks which would of no doubt fixed the confidence lost in the 2 – 0 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs who only managed to break down Palace in the 2nd half.

Arsenal Team News:

As mentioned above, Arsenal will be without Flamini for this game due to suspension which wouldn’t of helped as Arsenal are already light on key midfielders. Aaron Ramsey should be due back soon though which will be good news for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans. Others missing are Thomas Rosicky(broken nose) , Sanogo(back), and long term injuries Diaby and Walcott who are both out with crucial knee ligaments.

Crystal Palace Team News:

Tony Pulis only has a couple of injury worries with the first being Norwegian Jonathan Parr who currently has concussion. The next is Glenn Murray who is a long term patient recovering from crucial knee ligament issues. Crystal Palace could see talented goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey join them today after Wolves have apparently accepted a £3million offer according to Sky Sports. They do however welcome Tom Ince who signed from Blackpool this week and could feature on Sunday.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Head to Head Statistics:

As we can see below it is Arsenal who have dominated in the last 5 head to head battles and even if wee look deeper into the 27 games played in total you can see Crystal Palace have only ever won twice with 1 of them at Arsenal’s home ground. They have drawn 2 at the same ground out of the 8 total draws. Arsenal themselves have won an impressive 17 times which would give them the clear advantage here on Sunday.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 27 games played it total we have recorded a total of 81 goals scored by both sides which gives us an average of 3 goals per game which could prove to be correct in Sundays game as Arsenal look to continue their winning form.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Recent Form (Left to Right)

Arsenal: D W W W W

Crystal Palace: W L W L W

Form have been up and down for Crystal Palace who are now sitting 4 points above the relegation battle, which just goes to show their form has been much better since Tony Pulis took over. Yet they are facing an Arsenal side who only this week were knocked off the top of the Premiership by a Manchester City side who once again demolished Tottenham Hotspurs.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With every piece of information taken into account you can’t help but back Arsenal for this game on Sunday. With Manchester City now one point clear of Arsenal this will be Arsene Wenger’s chance to grab back that first position and allow City to have to deal with the pressure when they come to welcome Chelsea on Monday night. This will be a must win game for Arsenal and won’t want to drop points against a side who have just battled out of the relegation zone.

Tony Pulis will be trying to encourage his side to overcome the odds and beat an Arsenal side who have enjoyed most of the season atop the Premiership table and although they recently let slip to Southampton Pulis will want his side to capitalize on that slip and at worst come away with a point. Can I see it myself? In all seriousness I just cannot see it happening even though Arsenal are without Flamini who seems to pull of of Arsenal’s midfield strings.

So lets get down to some predictions, can we see Crystal Palace scoring at The Emirates on Sunday? I am not totally convinced they will so do plan to go for Arsenal to win both halves. the other I am going for is Mesut Ozil to score anytime during the match, its been a long time coming for the German international and he hasn’t been at his best in the last couple of months so opponents such as Crystal Palace could be what he needs to get his mojo back and grab himself a goal.
