Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 1st December 2013

Tottenham Hotspurs will be looking to forget this week after the humiliating defeat to Manchester City last weekend, the game ended 6 goals to nil and recent reports are saying that manager Andre Villas-Boas’ job is now on the line. I am sure most would agree that those type of rumours are just hear say as although a poor result to City we haven’t seen Spurs play too badly this season. But having spent over 100 million in the Summer transfer window on a hat full of players I guess fans and management were hoping their investment would of gone way further than 9th in the league. Tottenham Hotspurs were away from home in the Europa League on Thursday and struggled to impress against Tromso until the hour mark when Spurs went 1 nil up due to an own goal. Ten minutes later they extended their lead with a Dembele goal which ended the match 2 – 0.

Manchester United head into this match eleven games unbeaten in all competitions and now they have secured their last 16 place in the Champions League we can now see David Moyes side concentrate on the Premiership title fight. With such a poor result against Cardiff City last weekend after conceding a late 90th minute equalizer The Red Devils will be looking to repair that damage with a win over a Tottenham side who have been seriously shaken in previous weeks. David Moyes was quick to add that the midweek game against Bayer Leverkusen where Manchester United demolished the German side 5 goals to nil with saying this was by far the best United have played this season, and hopes that this performance is a sign of things to come as they fight to retain their Champions status.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Team News

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs are still without influential midfielder Christian Eriksen with an ankle injury as well as striker Harry Kane (back) and Danny Rose with a toe injury. Another doubt for Sundays game is striker Emmanuel Adebayor due to a pulled groin which we now expect to see AVB to use Jermain Defoe as striking cover. We also see Kyle Walker and Paulinho set to return after they were rested during the week in the Europa League.

Manchester United Team News:

The main team news for Manchester United is if Robin van Persie is fit or not due to a groin injury and I guess we wont find out until the last minute when team sheets need to be announced. But with Shinji Kagawa and Rooney on form in Germany this week it would be a shame for David Moyes to change it after the pair destroyed Bayer Leverkusen from within the middle of the park. Marouane Fellaini could be set to return after his European suspension as well as Nemanja Vidic for Uniteds defence.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics

The results have been kind to Tottenham Hotspurs the last 2 seasons with them winning away from home at Old Trafford but if we look to the 148 games played between these two historic clubs we can see Manchester United have the advantage with 78 victories against Tottenham Hotspurs 33.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the last 148 games played between these two sides we have seen 432 goals scored which gives us an impressive average of 2.9 goals per game and with Manchester United scoring freely and Spurs conceding far too many during the week it could suggest we see a few goals hit the netting on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Recent Form (Left to Right)

Tottenham Hotspur: W L L W D

Manchester United: W D W D W

Manchester United are the better team in form here having not lost a game in 11 encounters in all competitions, where as Tottenham Hotspurs are struggling as of late with a heavy defeat to Manchester City and with also struggling against Tromo in the Europa League on Thursday. Although they did grab the win it did come late and some say they didn’t even deserve the final result which ended 2 – 0 in Tottenham’s favor.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Last season the results were pretty much Tottenham Hotspurs having drawn at home and then beaten Manchester United on their own turf at Old Trafford, something that isn’t seen as an easy feat with the place being a fortress at the best of times. then we have this season where Spurs have spent over 100 million on some talented players which has bolstered their squad even with selling the most expensive player in the world to Real Madrid. Was it money well spent some will ask as rumours are starting to filter out that AVB may well be looking for a new job as Tottenham have now slipped down to the middle of the table.

Although Manchester United had one of their worst starts to a Premiership campaign it was to be expected with the transition of a new manager in David Moyes. But with that said the ex Everton manager has finally found his feet with his side now unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions. Yes they should be beating sides like Cardiff City and Southampton over 90 minutes but with late goals by their opponents we should be asking why Manchester United are not finishing off teams early on like they did in the past.

But anyway, coming into this match we see a struggling Tottenham Hotspurs side who took a hammering against the other side of Manchester in a 6 – 0 humiliation. Then during the week confidence must of been at an all time low as they then struggled to impress against Tromo in the Europa League but luckily found the result late on after an own goal and Dembele goal.

My prediction for Sundays game is for United to win but I am going for a Wincast which seems to be my flavor of the month. It comes in the form of Wayne Rooney to score and Manchester United to win which is showing some nice odds for Sundays game. The other is for both teams to score and again, Manchester United to win over the 90 minutes.
