Everton v Sunderland Preview, Premiership, Sunday 1st November 2015.

Home side Everton need to quickly get back to winning ways in the Premiership with the last coming away from home to West Bromwich Albion at the end of September. They have since then drawn their local derby to Liverpool and lost at home to Manchester United as well as away to fellow top side Arsenal. They did however win midweek in the Capital One Cup and knocked out fellow Premier League side Norwich City on penalties. The game ended 1 – 1 after 120 minutes with both of the in play goals coming in the second half of the match. This is a perfect opportunity for Everton to win three points on Sunday as Sunderland are not exactly a team in good form right now. A win for Everton could see them jump up to seventh, of course depending on results Saturday.

Sunderland earned their first league win last weekend and what better team to get against with bitter rivals Newcastle United on the end of a 3 – 0 hammering. It did require a 45th minute penalty to break the deadline, in which we also see Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini sent off in controversial fashion. Alan Johnson converted the spot kick and it took a further twenty minutes until we see the lead extended. Billy Jones grabbed the well deserved second goal and then four minutes from time Steven Fletcher completed the rout. Sunderland are not favourites to come away with anything but a loss this Sunday, regardless of the fact they won last weekend. Even though opponents Everton haven#t been the best, they are most certainly a stronger side only down on form due to some bad luck.

Everton Team News:

Everton have a massive amount of injury worries right now although we are now seeing a few potentially return over the coming weeks. Leighton Baines has been out since May with ankle surgery and is due to be back in action in the next week or so. Muhamed Besic is a doubt with a hamstring injury and likewise for midfielder Steven Pienaar who is lacking match fitness. Seamus Coleman has been out with an illness and is a serious doubt for the clash against Sunderland. Tony Hibberts recovery has taken a few extra weeks but should be back early next month, while defender Phil Jagielka has been ruled out after he was injured in the 2 – 1 loss to Arsenal.

Sunderland Team News:

Fabio Borini was rated a doubt for the win over Newcastle United last weekend, and we are unsure if he is available for Sundays fixture. Younes Kaboul is 50/50 due to a slight groin strain he picked up last weekend, so is unlikely to play. Adam Matthews (ankle), John O’Shea (hamstring), Jack Rodwell (ankle) and Ola Toivonen (calf) are all doubtful for the game against Everton.

Everton v Sunderland Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters it is surprisingly Sunderland who have had the better results with three wins, a loss and a single draw. In total we have 141 games recorded that these two premiership sides have met, and we see it is Everton who have had the better results with 65 victories. Sunderland have had their own fair share of wins, with 36 home wins and an impressive 17 away victories. The two have only experienced 23 draws in total.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 141 games played out between these two clubs, we have seen a total of 463 goals scored. This is going to give us an average of close to 3.3 goals per game. As we can see in the last five head to head encounters, that this average is way off, and we are more likely to only see the one or two goals max.

Even though Everton haven’t been in the best of form, they are still far better off than opponents Sunderland. The away side have only won the once in the league all season, and that was last weekend against rivals Newcastle United 3 – 0. Everton did recently beat Norwich City in the Capital One Cup 4th round and are favourites for the win come Sunday.

Everton v Sunderland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action this Sunday lunchtime comes from Goodison Park and features home side Everton against Sunderland who recently took apart their rivals Newcastle United. The game can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 and of course in high definition, and although the goals per game average is high, I just can’t see there being too many goals scored come Sunday. The last five encounters haven’t exactly seen a massive amount of goals with only seven scored in total in the last two years.

Everton midweek earned a precious win over Norwich City in the Capital One Cup 4th round and next face Middlesbrough away from home on the 1st December. It will be a tough fixture for Everton, knowing that their opponents beat Manchester United on penalties and at Old Trafford. Sunderland also managed to win recently, which is shocking as it is also only their first league win of the season. It came at home and at the expense of bitter rivals Newcastle United with a 3 – 0 romp. Questions are being asked if Sunderland can then go on and earn another win, but myself and the bookmakers feel it is highly unlikely with Everton being the better team.

In the last five head to head encounters we have seen that it is in fact Sunderland who have had the better results and also won the last two away fixtures at Goodison Park. The last time Everton beat Sunderland at home was now way back in 2012, but have experienced two victories at Sunderland’s ground over the recent years. That taken into account I still don’t see Sunderland winning the game, and am instead going for Everton to win the game to nil as my banker. The next I am going for is both teams to score in the match which also does have a high chance of coming in.
