Southampton v Swansea City Preview, Premiership, Sunday 1st February 2015

Southampton will finish this week in hopes of getting themselves back onto winning ways after the recent defeat to fellow Premiership side Crystal Palace in the FA Cup. The game was for the first half an incredible spectacle with all five goals in the first 45 minutes with Southampton twice taking the lead. Before their FA Cup exit Southampton had enjoyed a good run of games with wins against Manchester United at Old Trafford as well as beating Newcastle United on their travels to take themselves back up into third position in the league.

Swansea City haven’t enjoyed their last five games in all competitions except the 6 – 2 destruction of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup at the beginning of January. Since then however they have joined a host of Premiership teams who all see exit out of the famous English competition when Championship side Blackburn Rovers won at home 3 goals to 1. Before that they had drawn to West Ham United in the league but then were humiliated at home by a rampant Jose Mourinho Chelsea side 5 – 0. The odds are against the Welsh side to win in Southampton on Sunday and if it did happen would only allow them to keep pressure on Liverpool who are five points in front.

Southampton Team News:

Southampton are without four players for this game on Sunday with Emmanuel Mayuka the first due to his groin. We then have Morgan Schneiderlin missing with a groin strain while Toby Alderweireld is recovering from a hamstring pull. We then have Victor Wanyama out due to a hamstring issue also.

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea City are without wide man Wayne Routledge who sits out with a calf muscle strain. Lukasz Fabianski will no doubt be selected to play in goal on Sunday having played in twenty one Premiership fixtures this season. The clubs top league scorer is now Sigurdsson with four to his name, as Wilfred Bony was transferred to Manchester City recently.

Southampton v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters between these two Premiership sides we can see it is Southampton who come out on top with three victories and two draws. In total we only have 11 fixtures played between them with Southampton winning 5 and losing 3, meaning we also have 3 draws in total.

Southampton:  L W W W D

Swansea City: L L D W D

Swansea City haven’t enjoyed too much football recently with only the one win in their last five encounters, and were even knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Blackburn Rovers. Southampton also see exit to Crystal Palace in the same competition, yet are the side in better form with three wins, a draw and that loss.

Southampton v Swansea City Match Betting Odds Market

Southampton are at home for this encounter and also seen as the bookmakers clear favourites to win on Sunday. The best odds available right now can be seen coming in here @ 8/13 with Ladbrokes – £25 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

The Draw is a good selection here when considering both sides recent game in which they both lost to lesser sides in the FA Cup. Yet I would only feel strongly about the draw if Southampton were in poor form, in which they clearly are not. Best odds on the draw seen here @ 3/1 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

Swansea City are in need of a solid win here for Sundays game, yet that result is seen as highly unlikely by the leading online bookmakers. The best possible odds are currently coming in here @ 6/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Get £20 Free when Registering a New Account.

Southampton v Swansea City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action on Sunday comes to us live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features Southampton at home against Welsh side Swansea City. Both clubs were knocked out of the FA Cup last week in which Crystal Palace claimed Southampton’s scalp, while Championship side Blackburn Rovers knocked out the Welsh. Both sides will want to get back to Premiership action with a win yet the bookmakers are undoubtedly backing the home side Southampton for the win.

Swansea City haven’t had the best of results recently and have only won once in their last five fixtures in all competitions. Two of them were FA Cup ties in which they won and lost. We also have seen them draw 1 – 1 against West Ham United and lose heavily to Chelsea in a 5 – 0 romp. Southampton however may of seen exit from the FA Cup, but in terms of Premier League positions are actually punching way above what was expected of them with them now sitting in third.

My predictions for this Premiership clash on Sunday will of course back the home side to win in some fashion, as I seriously do not see this Swansea side beating them without their star striker Wilfred Bony who now plays for Champions Manchester City. So for the first I am going to go for a correct score of Southampton to win 2 – 0, while the next will be for Graziano Pelle to score and of course for Southampton to win the game.
