Barcelona v Villarreal Preview, Primera La Liga, Sunday 1st February 2015

It’s back to dominating ways for Spanish giants Barcelona with them now winning all of their last seven games in all competitions. In their last five fixtures they have however played in three Cope del Rey matches which also see’s them knock out last years league winners Atletico Madrid 4 – 2 on aggregate. Back to La Liga action though for the club who really want to earn back the Spanish title this year, and with them being a point behind Real Madrid with them having a game in hand they really do need to continue to pile on the pressure.

Villarreal are themselves having a great season so far and currently occupy sixth position in the La Liga table. Right now they are taking up a Europa League placement and if they can continue to hold it then we could see some exciting times for the club next season. They are also only three points away from a Champions League place yet I can’t see them winning those three points on Sunday against this rampant Barcelona side. Villarreal now face Barcelona again in the next few weeks, when the two clubs meet in the Cope del Rey after they themselves knocked out Getafe this week.

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona are currently missing three players due to injuries right now and it comes down as no surprise when we still see Belgian Thomas Vermaelen still out with his hamstring. New additions to the list however see Douglas Pereira (thigh) and Jermemy Mathieu (achilles tendonitis) out of action.

Villarreal Team News:

Villarreal are just without the one player due to injury right now, and that is Bojan Jokic with a knee issue. Sergio Asenjo is the clubs first choice goalkeeper this season and has so far played in all of Villarreal’s league games this season. The clubs top scorer right now is Argentine Luciano Vietto who has so far enjoyed 9 successful league goals.

Barcelona v Villarreal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters between these two Spanish clubs, we have pretty much seen Barcelona dominate with four wins and a goalless draw back in 2012. We have 31 games recorded in total with Barcelona winning 16 to Villarreal’s 8. Meaning the remaining 7 fixtures ended up as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 31 games played between these two clubs we have recorded a total of 93 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 3 goals per game. Which when looking at the above has only happened the once. Both clubs are doing well so going for the below as an option could be very worth while.

Barcelona v Villarreal Recent Form (Left to Right)

Barcelona: W W W W W

Villarreal: W W W W D

Both clubs in in great form respectfully yet it has to be Barcelona who are the better side with them currently one point away from being top of the La Liga. Granted we do see Real Madrid who are top, also have a game in hand over Barcelona and of whom are also favourites to win the league this season.

Barcelona v Villarreal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Primera La Liga action gets back underway this weekend after yet another break for the Cope del Rey competition. In which we see both Barcelona and Villarreal progress into the next round and even have now been drawn to face each other. This game can be seen live on Sky Sports 5 High Definition and will prove to be an exciting fixture if both clubs play to their full potential.

Villarreal are in exceptional form this season and currently see themselves positioned sixth in the table with the possibilities of Europe continually looking closer come the end of the season. Barcelona are as expected also in great form and seem to be doing well with seven wins on the trot recorded. they are currently second in the league with a point to gain on current leaders Real Madrid, yet their rivals currently have a game in hand over Barcelona so could extend their lead by four points.

My predictions for the game on Sunday will back both teams to come away with something. With the first following suit with a Barcelona win of some kind. For Villarreal to earn anything from this game I can only imagine that being in some form of draw. Which even though I am going for I still think it could be seen as a long shot by the bookmakers. So for the first I am going to go with Barcelona in win the game to nil. With the other being a correct score guess of 1 – 1.
