West Ham United v Swansea City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 1st February 2014

It has been a season to forget for all West Ham United fans, as not only are their club currently situated in the bottom three of the Premiership league table they have seen their defence concede an incredible seventeen times from the previous five matches played with five of those goals coming against Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup back at the beginning of January.

Although they did manage to beat Cardiff City 2-0 away from home recently, this game on saturday lunch time is a must win situation if they are to climb back out of the relegation places.

Swansea City are also having a bit of a frustrating season and look a mere shadow of the side that they were last season, but they do seem to be turning the corner in recent weeks and another victory to follow their midweek one against Fulham which they won 2-0 will only help in their push towards qualifying for a second season in European football.

West Ham United Team News:

Mohamed Diamé, Joe Cole and Winston Reid are all major doubts for the hosts and each player will under take a late fitness test to see if they can be involved in this game. Other than these three players, West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has a full squad to choose his starting lineup from.

Swansea City Team News:

Michel Vorm, Garry Monk, Michu and Jose Canas all remain out for the visitors, so expect Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup to go with the same starting eleven that comfortably beat Fulham at the Liberty Stadium 2-0 midweek.

West Ham United v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday lunch-times’ game from the Boleyn Ground will become just the 8th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which West Ham United have won 4 times (2 at the Boleyn Ground), Swansea City have won 1 time (0 at the Boleyn Ground) and there has been 2 Draws (1 at the Boleyn Ground).

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show West Ham United with a clear advantage having won 3 times with Swansea City having won 1 and the other game having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

18 goals have been scored in the previous 7 games played between the two clubs which provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.57 and with there having been (8 goals scored at the Boleyn Ground from the previous 3 matches played, this gives us an average goals per game statistic of 2.66.

Both average goals per game statistics seem to suggest that this game on saturday afternoon should see at least a couple of goals scored.

West Ham United v Swansea City Recent Form (Left to Right)

West Ham United: L L W L L

Swansea City: W L L W W

Swansea City have the clear advantage on the recent form statistics having managed to win 3 and lose 2 of their previous 5 matches played. West Ham United have struggled having managed just 1 victory from their last 5 games of which they have lost the other 4.

West Ham United v Swansea City Match Betting Odds Market

West Ham United are not having a great season at all by their standards and unless they can start winning games, then it looks very unlikely that they will survive to play Premiership football for another season. However, they do have an excellent record against Swansea City at the Boleyn Ground and I can see some punters taking the best price of 19/10 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) that is currently available as this really is a must win game for Sam Allardyce and his players.

The Draw has not been a regular result when these two sides have met each other in the past having only occurred once in the previous five meetings, but at a current best price of 23/10 with Sky Bet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers) this could attract some interest in what looks like being a very close game.

Swansea City certainly look the more likely to win this game on saturday afternoon and are heading into this game on the back of that 2-0 victory obtained over Fulham at the Liberty Stadium midweek. But their failure to have ever beaten West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground is an obvious worry and their current best price of 13/8 with Ladbrokes (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) does look a bit short considering.

West Ham United v Swansea City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

A difficult match in being able to choose a confident winner as there are cases for both sides chances. West Ham have never lost against Swansea City at the Boleyn Ground, but there has only been 3 previous meetings and with the way both clubs are playing this season it does seem that Swansea City look the more likely as they are playing the much better football and are heading into this game on the back of a midweek victory.

Something seems seriously wrong at West Ham United this season and for me it has to be Sam Allardyce as unfortunately he just doesn’t seem to be able to cope with Premiership football these days and another defeat in this game would obviously see him edge closer to receiving his P45.

The average goal per game statistics are suggesting this game to see at least a couple of goals scored on saturday afternoon and the obvious betting markets that stand out for me are Total Match Goals 2 or 3 and Both Teams to Score YES with the result of this game really going either way on the day.
