Arsenal v Crystal Palace Preview, Premiership, 1st January 2017

Arsenal head into this game having had a good season so far and currently occupy 4th position in the league table on 37pts having secured 11 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats from their 18 matches played.

The hosts have lost two of their last five league matches played which has seen them lose touch with current league leaders Chelsea, but the Arsene Wengers side did manage to beat West Brom 1-0 at home in their latest league fixture which will have gone a long way to restoring the confidence of the squad.

Crystal Palace head into the game having had a very tough season so far and currently occupy 17th position in the league table and just one place above the bottom three on 16pts having secured 4 wins, 4 draws and 10 defeats from their 18 matches played.

The visitors have lost two of their last five league matches played and could only manage a 1-1 draw away against Watford last time out in a game they should of won but for Christian Benteke failing to convert from the penalty spot.

Arsenal Team News :

The hosts will be without the services of Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs for this game as both players receive treatment for related injury problems.

Danny Welbeck is making good progress from this knee injury and should be available soon and Shkodran Mustafi has passed a late fitness test and is available for selection.

Crystal Palace Team News :

The visitors continue to be without the services of Connor Wickham, Bakary Sako, Pape Souare and Steve Mandanda as they all continue to receive treatment for long term injury problems and Damien Delaney will also be missing due to suspension.

James Tomkins, James McArthur and Joe Ledley have all passed a late fitness test and are available for selection.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s afternoon game from the Emirates Stadium will become the 33rd meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Arsenal have won 21 times overall with 12 of those victories having came with home advantage.

Crystal Palace have managed to secure 2 victories overall with just 1 of those having came away from home and with the club having not played at all well this season, it’s difficult to see those statistics changing.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, the last five recent meetings shows Arsenal with a clear advantage, having won four times, compared to Crystal Palace having won none and the remaining match having finished all square.

17/04/16 PRL Arsenal – Crystal Palace

16/08/15 PRL Crystal Palace – Arsenal

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

94 Goals have been scored in the previous 32 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.94.

49 of those Goals have came in the 16 previous matches played at the Emirates Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 3.06.

Based on both sets of data shown above it does seem to suggest that we should see at least a few goals scored in this game on Sunday afternoon and betting markets like Total Goals 2 or 3 and Over 2.5 Total Goals both looking good options for this match.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Match Betting Odds Market

Arsenal have slipped up a couple of times in recent weeks with defeats against Everton and Manchester City, but will see this fixture as one they should definitely win and with their opponents having had a torrid time this season the home win looks the stand out pick here at a current best price of 3/10 with BetVictor – Bet £10 & Receive £60 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw is a current a best price of 19/4 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers Registering an Account but this does look a very unlikely outcome regardless of the last meeting between the two clubs having finished all square.

Crystal Palace failed to beat a Watford side who were forced into two early changes of the game, missed a penalty when 1-0 up which would of probably been enough to win and then conceded a late equaliser, so for me the vistors have very little to no chance of winning this game on Sunday afternoon as their current best price of 10/1 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account clearly refelects.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Impossible to back against Arsenal winning this game as not only are they having a much better season than Palace, they also have a clear advantage on both the overall head to head statistics and recent form statistics.

In fact if we take a closer look at the h2h stats we see that Arsenal have won four of the last five meetings against Palace and you have to go back to the 1st of October 1994 to find the last time Palace did manage to beat Arenal.

Palace squandered a massive chance to pick up 3pts in their latest outing against Watford and for me the club will be lucky to survive relegation back into the championship come the end of the season as I just don’t see any players in that team that actually care about winning games and are just turning up week in week out for a pay day.

The visitors have an awful defensive record having conceded 20 goals from 9 matches played and unfortunately that number looks like increasing when all is said and done by Sunday evening in what promises to be another Palace defeat.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Arsenal to win as although I don’t fancy Palace getting any kind of result here, I do believe they might just snatch one and with the current odds on the home win no value at all, this looks a good alternative.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip for this game will be for Arsenal Striker Oliver Giroud to Score the 1st Goal of the Game as with the Arsenal front line having struggled in recent weeks, his return to the fold on Boxing Day would of impressed his manager.
