Yeovil Town v Watford Preview, Championship, Wednesday 1st January 2014

Yeovil Town are a side low on confidence right now having lost their last 3 games and having only scored once and conceding nine. They also sit 2nd from bottom who are looking likely to be one of the three who will be dropping down at the end of the season unless they start getting their act together. Don’t get me wrong they have done fantastically for a side of such low stature but maybe rising up to the championships so soon has proved to be a little too overwhelming. They have however been a club this season to grab points out of nowhere and against some of the bigger teams in the division with Nottingham Forest and Blackpool to name a couple. We also must remember the incredible 3 points they earned away to Watford last month with Yeovil winning the game 3 goals to nil.

Watford head into this match being labeled as one of the most underachieving sides in the Championships this year. For a team who were so close to promotion to the Premiership last year they now sit below the middle of the table in 13th place which is very unlike a side who were doing so well last term.  Having lost their manager Gianfranco Zola who sadly resigned due to 5 straight losses they have been a side who have shared a few confusing results this year. With little to no consistency this term it has left them just as close to the top runners to the bottom sides struggling with a relegation battle. It is now the Italian Giuseppe Sannino’s duty to rescue Watford’s Championship promotion chances. So far things are looking positive having drawn against Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich Town and also winning against Millwall.

Yeovil Town v Watford Team News

Yeovil Town News:

The main focus for Yeovil Town will be to rebuild their confidence which comes and goes, but with the recent trashing by Huddersfield Town who themselves hadn’t won in five matches before their 5 – 1 win. You can always tell when things are looking bad when your top scorer is a midfield player. That’s not to take anything away from Edward Upson who has played very well in the 22 games and has bagged himself 4 goals in the process. A majority of the 10 strikers signed on at Yeovil Town have played over five games with the more if form being Ishmael Miller who has scored 3 goals in 7 games.

Watford News

Watford however are not having issues with their strike force with Troy Deeney scoring eleven goals in twenty one matches which is making him the clubs top scorer by far. The closest player to him is the young Italian Fernando Forestieri who has himself scored five goals in the twenty games so far played. There are a fair few goals coming from midfield with the more prominent being Englishman Lewis McGugan who has notched six goals in twenty two games so far this season.

Yeovil Town v Watford Head to Head Statistics

Sadly with Yeovil Town spending a majority of their life in the lower divisions we haven’t seen them face each other too often, and can only find one result which happened last year with Watford at home and losing 3 – 0. This was a shock result for Watford and was a result that helped prompt Gianfranco Zola resignation.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only 1 head to head statistic to go on it gives us a solid average of 3 goals per game, yet that couldn’t be a deciding fact if you were looking to place money on such a statistic as I feel this result by Yeovil Town was a one off and classed as a shock result.

Yeovil Town v Watford Recent Form (Left to Right)

Yeovil Town: L L L D D

Watford: D W D L W

You would come to expect a side like Watford would be up there fighting with the best of the division, but sadly this year is unlikely to be there’s as they struggle in the lower half of the Championships and recently lost their cherished manager who was the Chelsea legend Zola. A fellow Italian has now taken over and the side are now looking promising and on the up with recent positive results going their way.

Yeovil Town v Watford Match Betting Odds Market.

Yeovil Town may be at home and also may of destroyed Watford at their own ground but with their results being so random the bookmakers don’t feel it is a result they can pull off again. With the best odds coming in @ 14/5 with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw is an option but not something I personally would go with. Watford in their last three games have played well and grabbed some good points from top sides. Which is why the bookmakers have set them as favourites. For the draw however the best odds are coming in @ 13/5 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Watford are solid favourites for this game having played well under their new Italian manager Giuseppe Sannino having taken points off top sides like QPR. The best odds are seen @ 21/20 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Yeovil Town v Watford Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Now when predicting anything when Yeovil Town are concerned you must remember just how random they are. With 95% of the time playing like a lower league side you just never know when that 5% will kick in and see them play like Brazilians and grabbing a result that more often than not simply take your breath away!

But can we go into this information with too much insight? Not me personally and I would never put money on them winning again against a Watford side who in the last couple of weeks looked like a side that should be ten places higher in the Championship. It was very sad for the fans and owners to see Chelsea legend Zola step down as the Italian blamed himself for such a bad run in form. But since the new man Giuseppe Sannino has stepped in Watford are looking like a side close to their best so I can see them coming into this game and grabbing a much needed win.

As for predictions my first will be for a scorer and Watford win, we could go for the clubs top scorer Troy Deeney or midfielder Lewis McGugan who is another scoring on more than one occasion. The midfielder option is better odds but I personally will go for the bigger chance with Troy Deeney who has so far scored 11 goals. The other I am going for is for both teams to score but Watford to grab the win. To be honest you don’t see too many Yeovil Town players grabbing goals, but having scored 3 against Watford previously it could prove to provide some much needed confidence for they strikers who are clearly lacking a finishing touch.
