Swansea City v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 1st January 2014

Swansea City head into this match having not won a league game since the beginning of December where they destroyed an in form Newcastle United. Heading into this match Swansea City haven’t won in five Premier League matches and with the form Manchester City are in it could end up being six. But the Welsh side are known to be tough opponents at The Liberty Stadium so could prove to be a difficult challenge for Manchester City who haven’t lost in eleven games in all competitions.

Manchester City come into this game having not lost since back in early November where bottom club Sunderland proved to much for Pellegrini’s men. Since then second placed City have gone on to beat Arsenal in a 9 goal thriller and then Liverpool who are also chasing honors this season. In the last ten Premiership games Manchester City have won 8 and drawn one with the loss to Sunderland as mentioned above. A win at the Welsh ground would be five straight win for City and could see them go top of the Premiership for a couple of hours until Arsenal take on fellow Welsh side Cardiff City.

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea City are struggling with injuries to a few key first team players heading into this game, with the likes of Michu and Lloyd Dyer both out with an ankle injuries. We also see Michel Vorm out with a knee injury which means that these three key players will make this game the forth they have missed in recent weeks.

Manchester City Team News:

Manchester City will be without the Spanish playmaker David Silva who is out due to a suspension after picking up his 5th yellow card in the win over Crystal Palace. Also in that match England goalkeeper Joe Hart received a head injury which earned the number one five stitches just below his eye. But despite the wound Joe will feature in the game on Wednesday. We could see Pablo Zabaleta return after being rested against Crystal Palace but City will still be without top scored Sergio Aguero (Calf), Jovetic, Demichelis and Micah Richards who are all out due to hamstring issues.

Swansea City v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last 5 head to head statistics we can see it is in fact Manchester City who come out winners here, although we have also seen Swansea City win and draw at home. We only have 9 games total on record and in that we have seen the Manchester club win 5 times to Swansea City’s 3 with the remaining one game ending in a draw last year.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 9 games played between these two sides we have seen 23 goals scored which is giving us an average of 2.55 goals per game. But we need to remember this current Manchester City side are now funded by billionaires and have a world class squad as of recent years. So it could suggest we see a few goals or more come New Years Day.

Swansea City v Manchester City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Swansea City: D L L D L

Manchester City: W W W W W

Funny enough it would be Manchester City who win the ‘who is in the best form’ war, having not lost in some time the title pushing side will be looking to make this game their 8th win in a row in all competitions. Swansea City however will be looking to get back to winning ways after not having won a game in the last six games played.

Swansea City v Manchester City Match Betting Odds Market

Swansea City may well be at home for this match on New Years Day, but they are by far the favourites to win this match after looking at their recent results. Bookmakers are currently setting the best odds @ 9/2 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw is a result only seen once in the past, granted we only have nine games to look back on but with the form Man City are in I can’t see them settling for anything less than a win to go top of the Premiership. Best odds are found here @ 10/3 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers)

Swansea City v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

We have a lot to take into account for this New Years Day clash as Manchester City look to continue their winning streak. With Swansea having to face a world class side like Man City who have completed eleven games undefeated and not only that but have also beaten the best team in Europe being the German Champions Bayern Munich in the Champions League Group stage. On top of that we have seen Manchester City completely destroy an Arsenal team 6 – 3 who were and still are now sitting top of the Premier League.

If Manchester City do win this game which is very likely on Wednesday then they will go top of the league for at least an hour or so until Arsenal play the same day at 3pm. Arsenal are also facing a Welsh side, yet Cardiff City are struggling just as much as Swansea City although they sit five places lower in the league and have recently sacked their manager.

As for predictions I feel it would be silly of me to back a Swansea City side who are struggling so much in recent months. Not only that they are also without a fair few key players due to injuries. Granted Manchester City are also down a few key players with the likes of top scorer Aguero missing due to a calf injury. This will continue to give good opportunities to strike pair Negredo and Dzeko who have both proved to step up since the Arsenal game and scored a few each themselves. So my first prediction will be for Manchester City to win with a Negredo goal. The other I am going for is Manchester City to Win and over 3.5 goals in the match which could prove to be worth it with such good odds.
